But Mark still struggles with his self-image because underneath all of his muscles he still feels like a clumsy teenager. His life starts to change when a stranger approaches Mark offering him a job as a stripper. Mark immediately dismisses it as another lame attempt at getting him laid. But his desperate need for money makes him think twice. He ends up surrounded by gorgeous men, his first true love and a past that just refuses to go away. WARNING: This book contains explicit scenes of consensual sex between men as well as some graphic language. It is intended for a mature, adult audience.

Stripped Expectations, by James Lee Hard

Review "Mr James, I loved all my feels while reading this book and the fact that you've got me feeling empathy for the villain is a worthy feat. Congrats on a wonderful debut!" - by Mama Vicky "What a wonderful debut novel! This book has me hungry for more sweet and sexy romance by James Lee Hard! If you're a fan of M/M romances, then this is for you." - by Sheila73 "Now I seem to be reading James Lee Hard's books back to front but after reading Becoming Jake I was pretty eager for more of his work. This is a great debut novel full of great characters" - by Rachelh

About the Author James spends most of his time looking at his computer screen, trying to summon the magical words that make the ingredients for a great story. He dreams about being able to move people and becoming a great writer one day. He writes contemporary gay romance and erotica but he wants to write about much more. His mind is filled with sci-fi gadgets, swords, wizards and dragons and he has trouble trying to choose one theme. Maybe one day we’ll read something starring sinewy heroes battling giant dragons in tight pants. But the romance will always be there. And the abs. And the happy endings – Jame’s a sucker for them. James draws inspiration from everyday life, books, movies, songs, pictures and much more. Almost everything can ignite his desire to write but not all will end up on his stories. James is an indie author who relies on friends and a growing base of lovely beta readers to help him with his stories, ensuring that each book is better than the previous one

I had "awww" moments and moments where I wanted to bash someone's head in. This is my kind of book.I loved Mark and how he went from such an insecure man to one who was proud of all he'd accomplished and could still accomplish. I also do love how, in the midst of all his insecurities, he was still able to step out of his comfort zones (yes zones). His friends, Oliver and Jason, goodness gracious, were so lovely and supportive; the kinds of friends you'd wish for yourself. Those who'd lift you up when you're down and keep cheering you on when things are going well for you. There were lots of "laugh out loud" moments in this book, as well as "OMG" and "WTF" moments. This book was such an enjoyable read for me and I'm, for one, glad I took a chance on this new author.I believe my favorite part of the book is that it doesn't read as a "gay" book. Instead, it reads as a book about two people, who happen to be men, navigating this wonderful and scary thing called love/relationship.Mr James, I loved all my feels while reading this book and the fact that you've got me feeling empathy for the villain is a worthy feat.Congrats on a wonderful debut!

Fun, frothy, and yet earthy too By Erin O'Quinn Here’s a very enjoyable story, a slice of life about a gay man and his friends, and yet one which goes deeper than a g-string on a well-muscled butt.Mark is a ruggedly handsome man who’s worked hard to become as buff as possible, a determined reaction to an early beating from a homophobe in high school. His friends Jason and Oliver are close, and all three of them seem to be searching for more than the casual sex they all indulge in almost as a way of life.At first reluctant to be a stripper, Mark is driven to it by a need for money. He finds he’s very good at it … so good, in fact, that his stage act causes the conflict, the very drama of the story.I will not give away the plot. Suffice it to say that happy endings really ARE what they’re cracked up to be!I enjoyed this novella very much. The main characters are likable, the story has a nice flow, the sex is very male-oriented and raw. It has a frothy lightness to it, and at the same time a kind of earthy reality.I look forward to more from James Lee Hard. And kudos to this author for taking the time to re-edit the book. It is sparkling!

A friend recommended this book to me, and I must confess I'm not a big erotica reader, but decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did, because my fears about predictable plots and bad clichés were soon put to rest by an endearing story and likeable main character - Mark.I liked how Mark had insecurities despite having good looks and the body of a greek god. I often find that, in real life, people closer to certain ideals of perfection are the ones with lowest self-confidence. And, as in real life, he has a chance to work on that. There were some genuinely funny moments among the hot action, and I kept thinking I'd like to visit Mustang, the strip club that felt like a place for lust, but also like a home and family for all the strippers. The backstage gets a good deal of attention (pun intended, I'll admit), and it makes the story all the more believable. The occasional typo doesn't detract from the story, and I'll be keeping an eye out for future books by this author. I'd like to know if Mark and Mustang will have more stories to tell.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. "You actually can go home again," Sam Wyatt murmured as he stared at the main lodge of his family's resort. "The question is, will anyone be happy to see you."But then, why should they be? He'd left Snow Vista, Utah, two years before, when his twin brother had died. And in walking away, he'd left his family to pick up the pieces strewn in the wake of Jack's death.Guilt had forced Sam to leave. Had kept him away. And now, a different kind of guilt had brought him home again. Maybe it was time, he told himself. Time to face the ghosts that haunted this mountain. The lodge looked the same. Rough-hewn logs, gray, weathered shingles and a wide front porch studded with Adirondack chairs fitted with jewel-toned cushions. The building itself was three stories; the Wyatt family had added that third level as family quarters just a few years ago. Guest rooms crowded the bottom two floors and there were a few cabins on the property as well, offering privacy along with a view that simply couldn't be beat.Mostly, though, the tourists who came to ski at Snow Vista stayed in hotels a mile or so down the mountain. The Wyatt resort couldn't hold them all. A few years ago, Sam and his twin, Jack, had laid out plans for expanding the lodge, adding cabins and building the Wyatt holdings into the go-to place in the Utah mountains. Sam's parents, Bob and Connie, had been eager to expand, but from the looks of it, any idea of expansion had stopped when Sam left the mountain. But then, a lot of things had stopped, hadn't they? His grip tightened on his duffel bag, and briefly Sam wished to hell he could as easily get ahold of the thoughts racing maniacally through his mind. Coming home wouldn't be easy. But the decision was made. Time to face the past."Sam!"The voice calling his name was familiar. His sister, Kristi, headed right for him, walking in long brisk strides. She wore an electric blue parka and ski pants tucked into black boots trimmed with black fur at the tops. Her big blue eyes were flashing—and not in welcome. But hell, he told himself, he hadn't been expecting a parade, had he?"Hi, Kristi.""Hi?" She walked right up to him, tilted her head back and met his gaze with narrowed eyes. "That's the best you've got? 'Hi, Kristi'? After two years?"He met her anger with cool acceptance. Sam had known what he would face when he came home and there was no time like the present to jump in and get some of it over with. "What would you like me to say?"She snorted. "It's a little late to be asking me what I want, isn't it? If you cared, you would have asked before you left in the first place."Hard to argue that point. And his sister's expression told him it would be pointless to try even if he could. Remembering the way Kristi had once looked up to him and Jack, Sam realized it wasn't easy to accept that her hero worship phase was over. Of course, he'd pushed that phase over a cliff himself. But this wasn't why he'd come home. He wasn't going to rehash old decisions. He'd done what he had to do back then, just as he was doing today."Back then, I would have told you not to go," Kristi was saying and as she stared up at him, Sam saw a film of tears cover her eyes. She blinked quickly, though, as if determined to keep those tears at bay—for which he was grateful. "You left us. Just walked away. Like none of us mattered to you anymore…"He blew out a breath, dropped his duffel bag and shoved both hands through his hair. "Of course you mattered. All of you did. Dor"Easy to say, isn't it, Sam?"Would it do any good to explain that he had thought about calling home all the time? No, he told himself. Because he hadn't called. Hadn't been in touch at all—except for a couple of postcards letting them know where he happened to be at the time—until his mother had found a way to track him down in Switzerland last week.He still wasn't sure how she'd found him. But Connie Wyatt was a force to be reckoned with when she had a goal in mind. Probably, she had called every hotel in the city until she'd tracked him down."Look, I'm not getting into this with you. Not right now anyway. Not until I've seen Dad." He paused, then asked, "How is he?"A flicker of fear darted across her eyes, then was swept away in a fresh surge of anger. "Alive. And the doctor says he's going to be fine. It's just sad that all it took to get you to come home was Dad having a heart attack."This was going great. Then it seemed her fury drained away as her voice dropped and her gaze shifted from him to the mountain. "It was scary. Mom was a rock, like always, but it was scary. Hearing that it was a warning made it a little better but now it feels like."Her words trailed off, but Sam could have finished that sentence for her. A warning simply meant that the family was now watching Bob as if he were a live grenade, waiting to see if he'd explode. Probably driving his father nuts."Anyway," she said, her voice snapping back to knifelike sharpness. "If you're expecting a big welcome, you're in for a disappointment. We're too busy to care.""That's fine by me," he said, though damned if it didn't bother him to have his little sister be so dismissive. "I'm not here looking for forgiveness.""Why are you here, then?"He looked into his sister's eyes. "Because this is where I'm needed.""You were needed two years ago, too," she said, and he heard the hurt in her voice this time."Kristi."She shook her head, plastered a hard smile on her face and said, "I've got a lesson in a few minutes. I'll talk to you later. If you're still here."With that, she turned and left, headed for one of the bunny runs where inexperienced skiers got their first introduction to the sport. Kristi had been one of the instructors here since she was fourteen. All of the Wyatt kids had grown up on skis, and teaching newbies had been part of the family business. When she disappeared into the crowd, Sam turned for the main lodge. Well, he'd known when he decided to come home that it wasn't going to be easy. But then, nothing in the past two years had been easy, had it?Head down, strides long, he walked toward home a lot slower than he had left it.The lodge was as he remembered it.When he left, the renovations had been almost finished, and now the place looked as though the changes had settled in and claimed their place. The front windows were wider; there were dozens of leather club chairs gathered in conversational groups and huddled in front of the stone hearth where a fire burned brightly. It might be cold outside, with the wind and snow, but here in the lodge, there was warmth and welcome. He wondered if any of that would extend to him.He waved to Patrick Hennessey, manning the reception desk, then skirted past the stairs and around the corner to the private elevator to the third floor. Sam took a breath, flipped open the numerical code box and punched in the four numbers he knew so well, half expecting the family to have changed the code after he left. They hadn't, though, and the door shushed open for him to step inside. They'd installed the elevator a few years ago when they added the third story. This way, none of their guests accidentally gained access to the family's space and the Wyatt's kept their privacy. The short ride ended, the door swished open and Sam was suddenly standing in the family room.He had time for one brief glance around the familiar surroundings. Framed family photos hung on the cream-colored walls alongside professional shots of the mountain in winter and springtime. Gleaming tables held handcrafted lamps and the low wood table set between twin burgundy leather sofas displayed a selection of magazines and books. Windows framed a wide view of the resort and a river-stone hearth on one wall boasted a fire that crackled and leaped with heat and light. But it was the two people in the room who caught and held his attention. His mother was curled up in her favorite, floral upholstered chair, an open book on her lap. And his father, Sam saw with a sigh of relief, was sitting in his oversize leather club chair, his booted feet resting on a matching hassock. The flat-screen TV hanging over the fireplace was turned to an old Western movie. On the long flight from Switzerland and during the time spent traveling from the airport to the lodge, all Sam had been able to think about was his father having a heart attack. Sure, he'd been told that Bob Wyatt was all right and had been released from the hospital. But he hadn't really allowed himself to believe it until now.Seeing the big man where he belonged, looking as rugged and larger than life as usual, eased that last, cold knot in the pit of Sam's stomach."Sam!" Connie Wyatt tossed her book onto a side table, jumped to her feet and raced across the room to him. She threaded her arms around him and held on tightly, as if preventing him from vanishing again. "Sam, you're here." She tipped her head back to smile up at him. "It's so good to see you."He smiled back at her and realized how much he'd missed her and the rest of the family. For two years, Sam had been a gypsy, traveling from one country to another, chasing the next experience. He'd lived out of the duffel bag he still held tightly and hadn't looked any further ahead than the next airport or train connection. He'd done some skiing of course. Sam didn't compete professionally anymore, but he couldn't go too long without hitting the slopes. Skiing was in his blood, even when he spent most of his time building his business. Designing ski runs at some of the top resort destinations in the world. The skiwear company he and Jack had begun was thriving as well, and between those two businesses, he'd managed to keep busy enough to not do much thinking. Now he was here, meeting his father's studying gaze over the top of his mother's head. It was both surreal and right. With a deliberate move, he dropped the duffel bag, then wrapped both arms around his much-shorter mother and gave her a hard hug. "Hi, Mom."She pushed back, gave his chest a playful slap and shook her head. "I can't believe you're really here. You must be hungry. I'll go fix you something—""You don't have to do that," he said, knowing nothing could stop her. Connie Wyatt treated all difficult situations as a reason to feed people."Won't be a minute," she said, then shot her husband a quick glance. "I'll bring us all some coffee, too. You stay in that chair, mister."Bob Wyatt waved one hand at his wife, but kept his gaze fixed on his son. As Connie rushed out of the room and headed for the family kitchen, Sam walked over to his father and took a seat on the footstool in front of him. "Dad. You look good."Scowling, the older man brushed his gray-streaked hair back from his forehead and narrowed the green eyes he'd bequeathed to his sons. "I'm fine. Doctor says it wasn't anything. Just too much stress."Stress. Because he'd lost one son, had another disappear on him and was forced to do most of the running of the family resort himself. Guilt Sam didn't want to acknowledge pinged him again as he realized that leaving the way he did had left everyone scrambling.Frowning more deeply, his father looked over to the doorway where his wife had disappeared. "Your mother's bound and determined to make me an invalid, though.""You scared her," Sam said. "Hell, you scared me."His father watched him for several long minutes before saying, "Well now, you did some scaring of your own a couple years ago. Taking off, not letting us know where you were or how you were."Sam took a breath and blew it out. And there was the guilt again, settling back onto his shoulders like an unwelcome guest. It had been with him so long now, Sam thought he would probably never get rid of it entirely."Couple of postcards just weren't enough, son.""I couldn't call," Sam said, and knew it sounded cowardly. "Couldn't hear your voices. Couldn't—hell, Dad. I was a damn mess.""You weren't the only one hurting, Sam.""I know that," he said, and felt a flicker of shame. "I do. But losing Jack." Sam scowled at the memory as if that action alone could push it so far out of sight he'd never have to look at it again."He was your twin," Bob mused. "But he was our child. Just as you and Kristi are."There it was. Sam had to accept that he'd caused his parents more pain at a time when they had already had more than enough loss to deal with. But back then, there had seemed to Sam to be only one answer."I had to go."One short sentence that encapsulated the myriad emotions that had driven him from his home, his family."I know that." His father's gaze was steady and there was understanding there as well as sorrow. "Doesn't mean I have to like it, but I understand. Still, you're back now. For how long?"He'd been expecting that question. The problem was, he didn't have an answer for it yet. Sam ducked his head briefly, then looked at his father again. "I don't know.""Well," the older man said sadly, "that's honest at least.""I can tell you," Sam assured him, "that this time I'll let you know before I leave. I can promise not to disappear again."Nodding, his father said, "Then I guess that'll have to do. For now." He paused and asked, "Have you seen. anyone else yet?""No. Just Kristi." Sam stiffened. There were still minefields to step through. Hard feelings and pain to be faced. There was no way out but through. As hard as it was to face his family, he'd chosen to see them first, because what was still to come would be far more difficult."Well then," his father spoke up, "you should know that—"The elevator swished open. Sam turned to face whoever was arriving and instantly went still as stone. He hardly heard his father complete the sentence that had been interrupted."—Lacy's on her way over here."Lacy Sills. She stood just inside the room, clutching at a basket of muffins that filled the room with a tantalizing scent. Sam's heart gave one hard lurch in his chest. She looked good. Too damn good. She stood five foot eight and her long blond hair hung in a single thick braid over her left shoulder. Her navy blue coat was unbuttoned to reveal a heavy, fisherman's knit, forest-green sweater over her black jeans. Her boots were black, too, and came to her knees. Her features were the same: a generous mouth; a straight, small nose; and blue eyes the color of deep summer. She didn't smile. Didn't speak. And didn't have to.In a split second, blood rushed from his head to his lap and just like that, he was hard as a rock. Lacy had always had that effect on him. That's why he'd married her.

19 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Yuck By Romance Reader This review contains a few spoilers, but I'm so angry about the plot that I just have to include them! Never have I hated the main male character of a story (this guy is NOT a hero) as much as I hated Sam Wyatt! This guy abandons his family and his wife without a word, disappears for TWO YEARS and blindsides his wife with a divorce after he leaves. Then he returns when his mother tracks him down and tells him that his father has had a heart attack and they practically fall all over themselves welcoming him home! He even tells everyone that he wouldn't have returned if his mother hadn't found him. He's never held accountable for his actions and he clearly doesn't care about anyone's feelings but his own. He never apologizes appropriately, he never grovels to his ex-wife - and he absolutely needed to grovel!!! And everyone says Lacy has changed so much since he left her because she's grown a backbone! What backbone? As soon as he shows up at her door they're having unprotected sex up against the wall! Really??? That's how you react after someone rips out your heart and then doesn't apologize for doing it? Arrgh! I've never been so upset with a plot before! There were plenty of missed opportunities for Lacy to be a strong woman who could have kicked Sam's you-know-what! This book reeks of "helpless female character from 1970's romance books." Yuck. Why doesn't anybody write a book where the male character has to do some serious groveling? I'd pay good money for that!

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Why????? By Kindle Customer This book was heart wrenching to read but I stayed with it waiting for an answer for why he left. It never made sense. It sucked. And I hate that he never ever was really sorry for leaving and that he lived the high life while she was hurt and broken. Why do I read these books??? And the last couple by Maureen Child have had some jerk heroes. And they get away with it and I just can't understand why the h's would take them back after all the pain they caused. I should have trusted the earlier reviewer and not read it. I can't get the bad feeling out of my heart. Even the epilogue made me sad. I don't recommend it. Maureen child used to be on auto buy for me but not anymore. Sorry I want honorable faithful heroes.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Don't bother By Amazon Customer Just not that great. It kept rubbing the wrong way. The H never apologized, never truly felt remorse I felt and it would have been nice had she given him a small taste of his own. Leaving and making him wonder where she went. The cheating is never discussed. Too many issues of discontent with this book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. `As far as I knew, no one suspected Quintin Lee Flynn liked guys. Not even me.' By Grady Harp Dan Sexton has the writing gifts to write about any subject, but the fact that writes Men for Men stories and pulls them off with such unique power is a true kudo to his talent. Yes, he is able to write some of the most sensual sexual scenes better than most any author today, but the fact that he places his same sex encounters in an atmosphere of college young men coming to grips with their sexual identity and making that aspect of his story equally important to his steamy scenes is really quite remarkable.Dan's use of language is sophisticated, informed and creative. He tosses out on-liners with aplomb - such as `Life has a way of smacking reality across your face. ` In this novella we meet Quintin Lee Flynn (Quin), his college roommate Dylan (a superbly fine characterization that needs more stories in the future), and the half Pakistani Aalam Eric Palak (Eric) - the usual college novelties abound as does the dating girls with only minor success. Quin and Eric are on the wrestling team and despite the fact that at first meeting they seem to be at opposite poles, the physical contact during wrestling eventually wins them over to desire. In an entertaining scene where the three lads engage in mutual masturbation, ostensibly encouraged by discussion of a particularly sexy girl, Quin and Eric have their first moment of sensual contact while Dylan goes about his business. This leads to further episodes of contact in the gym and eventually to a passionate discovery of both Eric's and Quin's true sexual proclivity. The novella is too short, but long enough to explore a highly charged `coming of age' sexual relationship. Dan Sexton knows his way around his subject and carries it off with as much superb writing as with satisfying smoldering sensual energy. He is a very fine writer by anyone's standards. I Quintin and Eric are two wrestlers who for some reason, do. It like each other very much. Quintin's hilarious roommate Dylan, who I hope gets his own story, gives him advice that maybe he has just hidden feelings for Eric. Dylan is tired of the two of them messing with the wrestling team and they all come together with Dylan leading the way.I so enjoyed the hate you now love you storyline. Eric and Dylan at first are afraid to admit their feelings, but soon they cannot stay away from each other. Such a sweet and smoking hot story. I'm looking forward to the follow up story. I hope it leads into a story for Dylan also!! Hint hint!

From the Back Cover

Why do some workplace cultures inspire energy and innovation, while others fuel anxiety, boredom, or cynicism? Until now, such legendary cultures have seemed like magic beyond our control. However, behind every culture is a surprisingly elegant science.

Primed to Perform proves that the highest-performing cultures are built on a simple truth: why people work affects how well they work. Great organizations inspire the three most powerful motives for work—play, purpose, and potential—and eliminate the three most destructive—emotional pressure, economic pressure, and inertia. They create total motivation (or ToMo, for short). Total motivation cultures create the highest-performing employees and the most adaptive organizations.

Authors Neel Doshi and Lindsay McGregor show that extraordinary performance at companies like Southwest Airlines, Starbucks, Apple, and Whole Foods comes from cultures that inspire total motivation. They describe how investment professionals, salespeople, teachers, and CEOs perform better when driven by total motivation. And, most important, they share how you can build a culture that inspires total motivation in every moment of every day.

Primed to Perform builds on over a century of academic thinking as well as the authors' original research into how ToMo drives performance at iconic companies. It introduces the authors' highly predictive new measurement tool, the total motivation factor, which allows leaders to measure the strength of their culture and understand how it changes over time. It gives leaders the tools to transform their own workplaces.

High-performing cultures can't be left to chance; organizations must create systems that shape and maintain them. Whether you're a five-person team or a start-up, an elementary school or a university, a nonprofit or a mega-institution, Primed to Perform shows you how.

About the Author Neel Doshi and Lindsay McGregor have a combined twenty years of practical experience transforming cultures at iconic institutions. They are the cofounders of Vega Factor, a company that helps organizations build high performing, adaptive cultures through technology, learning programs, and process design.Previously, Neel Doshi was a Partner at McKinsey & Company, founding member of a tech startup, and uninspired employee of several mega-institutions.Lindsay McGregor led projects at McKinsey & Company with Fortune 500 companies as well as school systems and nonprofits.Lindsay and Neel are married and live in New York City.

Definitely worth reading. The ToMo survey instrument seems fairly well developed and probably useful, as is the 6-dimensional ToMo motivational model. A downside for me is that the book is written in the business genre, with lots of case study type examples. Unfortunately, case study examples may be of dubious value, other than perhaps to motivate enthusiasm in readers. (Lots of business books that make extensive use of case study examples contain claims that have proven to be very wrong over time, so the studies don't prove much.) The book gets better as it progresses, broadly peaking towards the end in Part IV. A good deal of attention is paid to Fundamental Attribution Error (appropriately so, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more complex model such as is used in Attribution Style). Other important cognitive bias issues are inadequately covered (I would suggest Daniel Kahneman's, Thinking Fast and Slow, for an excellent background on that subject). Free riders are discussed a little, but more detail about that issue can be found in Jonathan Haidt's, The Righteous Mind. The tribe, band, hunting party, clique breakdown of groups was new to me, and very thought provoking. Also useful was the frequently overlooked observation that people in many jobs are so busy with tactical work, they have no time available for adaptive development. The Fire Watcher idea is good, but certainly not foolproof. I would also say some of what is covered in this book about adaptive work culture seems closely related to what is known from the Positive Psychology movement. It has been observed by various researchers that there is a tipping point in positivity when the ratio of positive to negative reinforcers is somewhere between 4:1 and 6:1. Above that people can get so positive they may get a little too out of touch with reality and insufficiently risk averse for their own good. Still, perhaps to arrive at a stable adaptive culture it might be necessary to maintain people somewhere above the minimum positivity tipping point, but I don't know if anybody has studied the issue in a business context. Sadly, the book doesn't go into any of that, but maybe the authors' next book will have some more to add.

Over and over and over again with the same point. If you're new to managing people, or if you're looking for ideas on how to structure, reward, or motivate your team, this is a pretty good book of things to keep in mind. So long as you can get past the repetitiveness.

By Rebecca H I read Primed to Perform because I've always viewed company culture as a critical and underutilized tool for unlocking success on many levels. Having worked at many different companies as a consultant, and having also done a stint at one of the companies profiled in the book, I was curious to see what the fuss was about. At the risk of sounding melodramatic, Primed to Perform really brought my understanding of culture to a whole new level - it creates a comprehensive vocabulary and structure around ideas that I think many people (myself included) have intuited on some level, but haven't fleshed out fully.Doshi and McGregor explain that we can't go looking for "good culture" in foosball tables or free catered lunches (though I'm not one to say no to those either!). Instead, the foundation of good culture exists in the way companies tap into employees' total motivation, or ToMo. ToMo itself is made up of six sources of motivation. The three direct ("good") motives are (1) play, (2) purpose, and (3) potential. The three indirect ("not-so-good") motives are (4) emotional pressure, (5) economic pressure, and (6) inertia. Each motive is explained in detail with relevant and entertaining examples. However, the most fascinating part for me was the data presented. For all you data nerds out there (represent!), company culture may have always seemed firmly planted in the realm of fluffiness. However, Doshi and McGregor present an extensive amount of analysis of ToMo scores for various companies and industries to illustrate that, in fact, companies we think of as having "that secret sauce" when it comes to culture - Apple, Whole Foods, Southwest - consistently have demonstrably higher ToMo scores than their peers. But, a metric isn't very useful unless you can act on it, and Doshi and McGregor spend a significant portion of Primed to Perform helping readers understand how to apply the principles of ToMo to their own companies in a very tangible way. I'm really hoping this book gains a lot of steam, because I would love to see a world in which companies invest as many resources in culture as they do in any other function, finally understanding that it can have a significant impact on the bottom line too.In addition to all of the great content, I also wanted to mention that the book itself is an entertaining read. The authors have clearly spent a lot of time collecting relevant and interesting anecdotes, and there are no shortage of examples to support each point they make. I look forward to participating in the broader discussion that I'm sure this book will spark!

Stevens As someone who owns over 50 paleo cookbooks at this point, this book offers something new, exciting and fresh. Usually with new paleo cookbooks, many of the recipes I look at I've made before. They tend to get a bit repetitive, and I whole heartedly appreciate how conscious of an effort Caroline made to do something different. It seriously warms my heart knowing that I have a cookbook to turn to around the Holidays, each with their own designated chapter. How awesome is that? If you are going to a potluck or barbecue on the 4th of July, Caroline has you covered. If you are having some of the guys over for game day, she has an entire chapter full of delicious bites you can make for that day. As I write this, I have Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal in the oven... can you believe that? I cannot wait to have it with homemade coconut milk and fresh berries, just like you see her doing in the recipe photo. Caroline, you have outdone us all. Bravo on this beautiful number!

By Kristen Boehmer I was so excited to receive Caroline Potter’s brand new cookbook, All-American Paleo Table! This book is GORGEOUS! The recipes look so amazing, and the pictures are just stunning. I’ve been a fan of Caroline’s photography for quite awhile now, and this book does not disappoint! With recipes like Steak And Eggs Breakfast Fries, Hawaiian Acai Bowls, Shredded Chicken Enchilada Guacamole Burgers, and Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sundaes, you’ll find yourself drooling over every page! I just made Morning Butter Biscuits the other day, and they were super easy to make! I made them into breakfast sandwiches with eggs and bacon, they turned out were sooo good!! This book is a must have!

The recipes all looked & sounded delicious. Unfortunately once I started reading the recipes a little closer I realized that many of her recipes call for various types of dairy. I do not do dairy with the exception of grass-fed butter or ghee & I was very disappointed that many of the recipes I wanted to try called for it. There are lots of inventive husband/ kid friendly foods in this book that look fun to try though. It probably won't be used regularly in my kitchen but nice to have for special occasions.

From the Author "We are so fortunate to have Dr. Travis Langley and his outstanding contributors' new book, Star Wars Psychology: Dark Side of the Mind. May the Force be with you as you read, learn, and rediscover why you love Star Wars."- Carrie Goldman, from her foreword"When Jung described the dark side of the mind, he referred to the part that is shadowed and hidden deep inside. It might not be evil at all.... While we are certainly not all Jungians, all of us bringing you this book do believe that the hidden, unrevealed part of the human nature is worth exploring. Both the light and dark sides unite in us all."- Dr. Travis Langley, from his introduction

From the Back Cover The Star Wars saga is a sprawling space opera that has captivated fans for decades and continues to inspire a new generation. Evil tyrannical oppression rules this world and heroes must rise to battle the darkness. Psychiatrist Carl Jung and mythologist Joseph Campbell observed that people in every place and time tell tales of heroes who face darkness, win victories, and returned transformed. This archetypal Hero's Journey underlies the Star Wars story and demonstrates the role of psychology in shaping this saga. By exploring psychology, fans can better grasp the motivation and mental states of their favorite characters. What is individuation and how does it embody the tenets of a powerful spiritual organization? How does anxiety disorder explain the transformation of a character's psyche from good to evil and back to good? Can robots feel pain and suffering? How do limb amputation and neuroprosthetics impact the brain? Does music influence our emotional reading of this saga? In 20 chapters from a range of esteemed psychology professionals and The Empire Strikes Back novelist Donald F. Glut, a foreword by Carrie Goldman (author of Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kid Needs To Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear), and "Force Files" exploring the "Big Five" personality factors and the characters who embody each major trait set, Star Wars Psychology: Dark Side of the Mind sheds new light for fans of the series and psychology.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Not written by a fan By Grant Rogers I received this as a random gift for Christmas. It is a very interesting book which raises intriguing questions and draws many lines between Star Wars and psychology. However, for every time I was pleased by this book there are errors that stop it from meeting its potential. Most chapters are independent essays that raise a different question, or examine certain psychological characteristics within the Star Wars universe. Therefore, there is a different author and writing style for each chapter. Some chapters are written excellently. Others, however, are full of mistakes; grammatical mistakes, mislabling of figures and diagrams, and a failure to correctly cite which Star Wars movie is being referred to.This book seemed like a great idea; it combined my interest in psychology with my love of Star Wars. However, it does not appear to be edited very well. Failure to identify simple grammatical and citation errors, in addition to the greater frustration of not properly referencing Star Wars, lead this book not not reach its potential. It is okay, 3 out of 5. Worth about 5 bucks, or worth a read if you get it for free.

When Marcus finally asks to court her, his four-year-old daughter Vanna in tow, she’s thrilled. Everything is perfect, until her mother, who hates discipline and Hyacinth, comes to town and finds out about Marcus. Now, with the possibility of being ripped from the arms of the man she loves, Celia finds herself floundering with how to explain things. When decisions are made and everything comes to light, she just might find that sometimes reality is so much better than fantasy. About the series "In Hyacinth" by Bree Cariad: Hyacinth, Washington is all about old-fashioned values. In Hyacinth words like trust, honor, and kindness aren't just buzzwords. Hyacinth is a community built on tradition and trust, where men are the head of the home and women are encouraged to follow their lead. Each story in the series is of a young woman (18-20) and her struggle to figure out who she is in this little town while at the same time going through Hyacinth's old-fashioned courting system. On their way to meet, get to know, and finally marry their princes, these heroines grow in ways they and their town never expected.

By Angela S Goodrich I’ve gotta get it out of the way right up front – I was surprised by how judgmental Celie’s grandmother was considering that she was part of the Domestic Discipline lifestyle that Hyacinth was founded on. I totally get her wanting the best for her granddaughter, but to summarily dismiss a man as a potential suitor just because he was a widower and had a child just rubbed me the wrong way. Granted, it gave Celie the opportunity to prove her mettle when it came to following her own path to happiness rather than her grandmother’s when the opportunity to do so arose, which is ultimately what elevated Courted by Experience to a 5-star read for me. But that doesn’t mean I had to like her grandmother’s negativity before she took the time to get to know Marcus and his daughter Vanna.Celie has returned to Hyacinth to spend the year with her grandparents and to enter the courting system now that she is 18 – a fact she has kept from her mother, who was so opposed to the Domestic Discipline lifestyle that she took Celie and left Hyacinth when her husband died in a car accident over a decade ago. Celie’s childhood memories of Hyacinth and her father, as well as her research into Domestic Discipline have left her longing for her very own suitor and head of household. Unfortunately, the first several dinners are a bust despite her grandmother’s preference for the potential suitors. Fortunately for Celie, her grandfather listens to the things she says and accepts a dinner request from Marcus; he also has no problem taking her grandmother in hand when she lets her best intentions run amok.I loved watching Celie get to know Marcus and Vanna, appreciating rather accepting that they were a package deal. Because Courted by Experience is an In Hyacinth book and the courting system is designed to lead to a marriage between the two parties, I don’t think it’s really a spoiler to say how much I loved Marcus’s proposal to Celie at the end, especially the exchange between Celie and Vanna that was so freaking sweet that I teared up. Ms. Cariad has given fans another great addition to the series and I’m looking forward to reading Courted by a Knight later this week.I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

A great addition to the series By Crystal's Many Reviewers I really enjoyed this book because of how different it was, and it did answer a few questions that I had about what courting would be like if the other person had children. Well, I’ll start off by saying that I loved that part of the story! I thought it was great how Ms. Cariad was extremely careful about adding Vanna into the mix, and how important of a role that she played in the whole thing. But I did also like how she made sure to mention that Celia and Marcus were able to have time to just themselves.I also loved Celia’s grandmother. She was just a trip and it was so much fun getting her insight into everything. (I swear even now I wonder how the woman could sit down with how much trouble she got into!)Now, even though I did love certain parts of the story, the reason why I was only able to rate it at 4 stars is because, to be quite honest, Marcus came out of nowhere. While yes, it was obvious that Celia was interested in him, there was no hint at all that he felt the same way as her. So it was quite a big shock when he showed up.But overall, I did still enjoy the story and I can’t wait for the next in the series!Reviewed by Crystal Marie for Crystal’s Many Reviewers*Copy provided for review*

Although each story can be stand alone, the author manages to include past and future characters into each story. The small community of Hyacinth is founded on old fashioned values, DD marriages, and a strict courting system. Celia Compton was taken away from Hyacinth at the age of 8, after her father suddenly died. Her grandparents finally comes back to live with her grandparents in Hyacinth. Celia is intrigued by the old fashioned values and courting system. Dr. Marcus Hotham and his young daughter Vanna have also recently moved to Hyacinth. Although they both are attracted to each other it takes a while for Marcus to make his move to court young Celia. Celia has to deal with her mother who doesn’t believe in the values of Hyacinth and her grandmother who wants to control who Celia ends up with. Luckily Celia has her grandfather who has to continually remind his wife who is the head of the household with a little DD to reinforce it.

Always Her (Lesbian Romance), by Alexandra Delancey

Review "Ms. Delancey has managed to carefully craft a magnificent novella; she's combined a work of unrequited love from the past, a story of coming of age to some extent, certainly not just another coming out saga. This to me is a good old-fashioned love story between the two main characters and in spite of their prior experience, each it seems has managed to remain so pure of heart. For each of them life has yielded itself to have brought each of them to the necessary moment in time. I have myself used multiple first-person POV telling of tales, and can honestly say that this one delivers whole and sum!  Bravo!" - Amazon customer

By Barbara Thompson Ms. Delancey has managed to carefully craft a magnificent novella, Always Her. She's combined a work of unrequited love from the past, a story of coming of age to some extent, and lastly certainly not just another coming out saga. This to me is a good old-fashioned love story between the two main characters and in spite of their prior experience, each it seems has managed to remain so pure of heart. For each of them life has taken its necessary course, until in this moment, everything is lined up for the marvelous story that life can be. I have myself used multiple first-person POV telling of tales, and can honestly say that this one delivers whole and sum! Bravo!HollyAnne Weaver

The characters, Jack and Elise tell their own story in alternating chapters. I really like the way and point of view the story is written. The characters have depth and you want to go into bat for them, to get them on the right path (to each other)! A great coming out story.I look forward to reading more from this author.

If you want a great story about coming out, later on in life rather than earlier on, then you need to read this book. The characters are awesomely written and you follow two main characters, one already out with a girlfriend and the other supposedly straight with a boyfriend. It's an easy read, well written with great character interaction and an interesting back story.

I loved the first two books with Pixie and Levi, and Kayla and Daren, but I fell in love with Jenna and Jack in this third book. Talk about the feisty and the fierce, and some serious sexual tension that you can cut with a knife between these two. Oh, and let’s not forget their hilarious bickering. I’ve got to say, Fine blows me away. And as the saying goes, “third time’s the charm,” and boy did Fine live up to that with Jenna and Jack and their hot romance. Fine has given readers two delicious characters with the sexy hottie bad/good boy Jack, and the stubborn, hard headed Jenna. I can only say to Chelsea Fine, "Well Done!" I'm a satisfied reader, and you’ve also given me a steamy, beautiful romance that was definitely swoon worthy.I met Jenna and Jack in Best Kind of Broken (1st book) with Pixie and Levi, so I was ready to see whatever became of their one night stand. These two bada$$es with their beautiful tattooed bodies were just screaming meant to be. But Jenna is one tough girl, and she has no need for the whole romance and falling in love thing. Nope, she has a life planned out for herself, which only includes me, myself and I, and it didn't include any men, and her heart sure wasn't going to fall in love with the tattooed, gray-eyed, over six-foot tall hottie. With his broad muscles, this gorgeous bad boy is also pretty obnoxious, and he only has to say Jenna’s name to cause her total undoing. But Jack already knew he was a done man after that one night with Jenna. The beautiful, wild Jenna that drives him absolutely crazy. This road trip was his hope to win this independent woman's heart. The road trip was either going to get Jack the woman he loves or it was going to destroy him.I hope this isn't the last book in Fine's Finding Fate series, because there are other characters like Drew, Ethan, Samson hopefully with Trixie and even Ellen that I would love to see finding their true loves.I highly recommend Jenna and Jack in the Right Kind of Wrong as an awesome, right kind of read.

Jumping into a series at book #3 had me a bit concerned…but I need not have been! Each story is a stand-alone but they do intersect at one point in time. Within pages of the beginning, I was hooked. The characters (Jenna and Jack) are engaging and likeable in their own way. Though at times I did get a bit tired of Jenna fighting her attraction to Jack…get on with it already girl…you have a hunk of a guy!.Jenna’s ruminations about Jack….makes a girl just want to swoon :)“It’s a manly voice, husky and rough, yet somehow beautiful as it drifts my way and caresses my ears. It’s always been my kryptonite for me, much like his omniscient eyes, and in many ways it’s more powerful than even his hands, which is saying something.”I found the love story gripping. Jack knows and freely admits his love for Jenna, but she is a skittish gal….her vision of her life is to NOT fall in love. She sees that as a sign of weakness, which will only derail her plans for her future. What she obviously does not realize is that love with the right man will enhance her life and plans, not detract. And her grandma (what a character!!!) plans to make sure Jenna figures this out! It is the story of love…but it is so much more.I really enjoyed the storyline of Jack rescuing his younger brother. The trouble Drew got himself caught up in is a classic story of a forgotten son trying to obtain the love and acknowledgement of his father…..no matter how much of a scoundrel that father is…..and trust me….he is a no good so and so! This sub-plot showed the true depth of character of Jack. He would go above and beyond for one of his family members….and he does. It seemed like a no win situation at first, but with clear thinking and a bit of cleverness….well….you will see.A couple notable quotes I enjoyed were in describing love……Jenna truly needed to hear and understand what love was all about. And once she did that…life is good, complete. This first quote I felt tries to explain to Jenna that love, like many things in life are not 100% within one’s control and the sooner we as people embrace the unknown, the richer our lives will be.“Love isn’t an obedient whim. It’s an unruly force. And it answers to no one.”And this quote just seemed to me to seal the deal with Jenna finally realizing she can love and still be the person she is trying so hard to be.“Choosing to love a man, and letting that man love you back, is the most independent thing a girl can do for herself. No independent person is truly successful on their own.”Parts of the story were a bit dragged out and could have been more succinct, but as luck would have it, these parts were not overly long, which is good because any more dragging and I would have lost interest. And I am glad I stuck it out.If you enjoy a bit of steam…okay…a fair amount of steam (whew…) when covering off the main love scene and descriptions of hunky men in a good, solid love story in addition to good old fashioned family values thrown in with mob wars, then take a chance and read this book.*OBS would like to thank the publisher for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review*

A lot of readers have that author who is an Insta-buy/Insta-read, Chelsea Fine is that author for me. I love the whole Finding Fate series, but Right Kind of Wrong is definitely my favorite, which is saying a lot because I Love Pix and Levi’s story.Jenna is totally different that most female heroines. She’s beautiful, tatted, has the mouth of a sailor, and is probably the most stubborn female character I have EVER read about. She had a hard childhood, her mother struggled because her father had walked out and was left to raise Jenn on her own. So, Jenna has put this guard around her heart and set a plan for herself so the same situation that happened with her mom and grandma (because her grandma’s husband walked out on her too) never happens to her. Everything seems to be working out just fine until Jack is in the equation.Jack is this sexy sweet guy. When reading this there is no man I could honestly picture playing jack. He is big (like tall and muscular), Tatted up, and just gorgeous. He is hard yet soft. It’s a very sexy combination. Jack moved to Arizona to escape his haunting past back home, but when Jenna is forced to drive back home on her own and trouble has struck Jack’s family he can’t help but to go back to Louisiana, the one place he told himself he never wanted to be again.I had so many feelings when reading this book. I was angry, happy, swooning, smiling like an idiot, and sad. How can A book make you feel so many emotions? I have no idea, but Chelsea Fine can always do it to me. She has a talent for making her characters and stories come to life. There were many times that I felt I was there in this story with Jenna and jack, I actually found myself yelling at Jenna for being so pigheaded. The characters, there is not a single character I dislike besides for one and I’m not saying who that is (it might be too spoilery). Even the bad guys were likable. Yeah, they were bad guys, but I never felt myself cringing or having dislike for them. Jenna’s family was big, sweet, warm, and welcoming. And her Grandma don’t even get me started on her superstitious grandma. She was a riot. Jack’s family was nice too, they weren’t the same kind of warm as Jenna’s family, probably because of the hard past they went through, but they were still very nice and welcoming. You just get good but different vibes from both families. Very refreshing.I can gush forever about this book but I feel you totally have to experience it all for yourself. This book is part of a series but can also be read as a standalone.
