She hates him. He loves her not. Men are weeds. Allison Hart doesn't need them in her carefully tended life, though her friends at Green Acres seem happy with their guys. Why can't Allison open her heart to anyone but her young nephew? Then again, he'll be a man one day, too. If only the irritating contractor in charge of building her home and farm school wasn't the boy's favorite person. Fireworks with Brent Callahan's newest client shift from antagonism to the rocky possibility of a relationship. When he comes face to face with a history he'd much rather forget, he realizes hiding his failures isn't the best option for finding forgiveness, let alone love. Can a little boy help weed out the past before it chokes their future together?

Brent couldn’t believe the gall of this woman. “No, you cannot work on the job site.” Allison’s chin came up. “And exactly why not? You obviously need help. I may not have all the experience you guys have, but I can make things easier for you. I can fetch and carry, and whatever you need done. Like an apprentice.” “I don’t think so, ma’am.” She leaned closer, her eyes flashing fire from mere inches away. “Don’t call me ma’am.” Brent’s grandmother had drilled that kind of respect into him when he was a kid. Allison Hart seemed to take it as a personal affront. Just went to prove not all women thought the same, as if he hadn’t had enough life lessons on that one already. But he couldn’t back down… or away. He was the foreman here, regardless of what she thought. “I beg your pardon.” Never mind that his tonal inflection was the exact opposite of begging. “Give me one good reason I can’t help.” He could give her thirty without coming up for air. “Steel-toed boots.” He should make her wear them anytime she put that hard hat on. “Okay. I’ll go put them on.” She turned. No way. She had a pair? He might need a few more of his thirty reasons. “No sweaters with holes in them that can get caught on pegs. No hoods on jackets for the same reason.” Allison glanced back at him with a shrug. “You think I only have one change of clothes?” He could be pardoned for thinking that. She only wore black, as near as he could tell. It all looked the same to him. She marched back and plunked her hands on her hips. Not that she had any. “Why don’t you say what’s really on your mind? You don’t want me here because I’m a woman and you don’t think I can do the job.” Two could play this game. “I don’t want you here because you’re a woman and you have no experience. I’d rather watch for falling hammers than watch for someone who’s bound to get injured in the first hour.” He leaned closer. “I don’t have the time or the patience to teach an apprentice.” “You have the time,” Allison shot back. “But I totally believe you don’t have the patience.”Scroll up and grab your copy of DANDELIONS FOR DINNER today!

While her stories incorporate some not-so-happy life circumstances and events, her telling of them is cozy and light.Ms. Comer has created a tightly knit world with very real and personable characters. As a romance series, the reader is acquainted with a new couple in each charming story. This reviewer has not – yet – read the first two in the series; I assure you, I will. I first met the couples in the third in the series, Sweetened with Honey, and felt as though among old friends reading Dandelions for Dinner. With this newest in the series, Allison Hart is new on the scene at Green Acres Farm, and set to teach classes as soon as her home and the school are completed. A lone wolf, Allison is faced with some big adjustments with communal living, and can’t wait for her house to be finished and her solitude restored. Construction is delayed, however, and the tension between her and the job site foreman escalates. With the construction delay, and then the arrival of her young nephew, Allison’s attention is focused on caring for the child. And with her attention of the child, her heart, long tucked away for safe keeping, is awakened and barriers long constructed begin to erode away.Once again, Ms. Comer has taken life circumstances and woven them into a credible story. I felt Allison’s angst and conflict as her heart was pulled from the safety of its cocoon. I felt the ache and longing for her nephew, and I felt her inability to reach out to him.I felt the shame of Brent Callahan’s past, too, and his sense of failure that haunted him. And I sensed his dread as that standard began to crumble underneath him.Ms. Comer has an enchanting and delicious style of writing, as if telling the story over a cup of coffee, er, dandelion tea. Her humor and craft with words shines on every page, and keeps the reader turning page after page. Her sensitivity to the life issues is not diminished, however, in her lighthearted manner. Indeed, the trauma is made more dramatic for the whimsical telling of it.Oh! I also learned that dandelions make for good eating!I was given a copy of this book in return for my honest review.#valeriecomer, #dandelionsfordinner, #farmfreshromance, #sweetenedwithhoney, #raspberriesandvinegar, #wildminttea, #plumupsidedown

Brookens I began reading Valerie Comer books last year when I read an interview about her passion to write on healthy eating/living and also incorporating a Christian perspective. Two of my favorite subjects! I read the first two Farm Fresh Romances in quick time; they were engaging and fun. I waited for the third book in the series and devoured that book quickly as well, so I knew the fourth book would be the same.Dandelions for Dinner continues the saga of the community on the farm with a twist of a newly added character from the third book. I have to say it took me all the way to the end to like this new girl, but I'm sure that was the point. Allison, the main character, has a lot of emotional issues to work through, and this story focuses on her need for a real, loving relationship with God. I LOVED this book, as I love all the reads of Valerie Comer. They are engaging all the way through, and thought provoking as well.I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Real people, real situations, great read By Sharon Lynch I've read and enjoyed the other three books in the Farm Fresh Romance series and I was looking forward to reading the fourth book. I was not disappointed, and ended up reading the book in about two days. I really appreciate how the author uses real people and real situations in her storylines. Allison is dealing with real issues, ones that most of us deal with (directly or indirectly) on a very regular basis. It is easy to identify with her struggles, and the situation with her nephew is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. These books aren't just fun reads, they are also great books to recommend to new Christians or to women who don't really understand just how life changing Christ's presence is. The books are never preachy, which in itself is a testament to the author's skill, but illustrate clearly what "the family of Christ" really is.
