9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A rare disappointment from a very likable author. By Leigh First, let me say I'm a fan of this author and thoroughly enjoy her other books. This one, not nearly as much. When single father Gus walks into his office to see eyes on his new handsome boss, Jack, I was ready for a good romance. What happens next wasn't so much romance as completely unbelievable instalove and given Jack's completely unlikable attitude, that was asking a lot from readers. There were a number of other plot challenges for me. Gus quits his corporate-ladder climbing job to have a more parent friendly one, so why in the world would he choose the restaurant business. Well, okay, he brings his son to work...a lot! The interactions were cute, but anyone who has ever worked in the back of a busy restaurant will tell you a six year old would not only be in the way, it would be unsafe. Gus keeps him confined to a small office with demands to "do his homework". However, how much homework can a six year old have and typically they can't do it without parental help. All of this just didn't seem to be realistic. Next, we have Jack who is the step-brother of Gus's other boss, Doug. Doug seemed very irresponsible and not in a quirky way. Jack has an interesting backstory where he lost a child he thought was his when his wife reveals his best friend is actually the father. Tragic, right? Except, Jack admits he wasn't much of a father. So it makes me not like him even more and it's completely unrealistic. As the man married to the mother, he would legally be presumed the father and any dispute would have been worked out in a divorce. The plot makes it sound like he just said, "Oh, ok" and walked away without even asking for a relationship. This might have been better handled to explain why he is so adverse to forming a bond with Gus's son, Josh. So both Gus and Jack, not only have hot sex, they suddenly and without much build up are so in love they are rearranging their lives to be together and Gus is all for it when the idea of Jack adopting Josh comes up. Yikes, that was fast! The other plot line I didn't buy was Josh's mother just walking away and a random knife wielding man seemingly added out of nowhere to increase the suspense. Neither was very well explained.Like I said, I appreciate this author and her other works, but this one was a big disappointment for me. I needed more of a reason to like Jack and definitely more to understand why Gus was so head over heals for him. I did like Josh and his precociousness, but found him to be written more as a eight-ten year old, than a six year old.

Josh was a great little boy who was very inquisitive and just stole my heart. Gus is so laid back and happy go lucky that he makes an incredible father, and I enjoyed how he pursued Jack so relentlessly. Jack was sexy, sexy, sexy, but he might come off as bossy and gruff, but Gus was truly his boss.
