Britton Review for Ramblings From This Chick. ramblingsfromthischick.blogspot.comI am so torn when it comes to this book, and I really don't even know where to start with this review. If you haven't read Something Reckless, you need to start there before Reading Something Real. This book is the second part of Liz and Sam's story and you will be lost if you haven't read the previous book. Though you do need to read Something Reckless, you do not need to have read Lexi Ryan's Here and Now Series or the New Hope Series, though the characters are interconnected. I will tell you that I couldn't wait to read this book, and I loved Sam and Liz from the start of this series. But I did have some issues, and that kept me from really loving this book.Something Real picks up after the events of Something Reckless, with Liz and Sam broken up after everything was revealed about who River was. Sam and Liz are both miserable and want to be together, but they have no idea how to get back to one another and neither of them has taken the initiative to contact the other. Liz moved to Indianapolis to work on the Guy campaign and has been there for five months. But when the Guy campaign suddenly brings Sam back into her life, they realize that they aren't as over as they thought they were. This time around there are more obstacles than ever and though they want to be together, can they actually make a relationship work?I really loved Liz and Sam together in Something Reckless. These two just fit together so well, and I knew that they belonged together. I was so sad for them at the end of that book, but I just kept thinking that they had to find a way to make it work. Though I still liked Liz and Sam, this book didn't have me loving them as much as before. They both made bad decisions and seemed to be incapable of making the first move. They made assumptions and didn't talk to one another. I thought that Liz avoided Sam too much and should have been able to discuss things with him. Sam was so determined to always do the right thing that he missed so much of what was going on around him. I felt like he should have fought harder for Liz, and I wanted to see him step it up the way Liz deserved. They still had a lot of chemistry between them and their connection was never the problem, but they needed to work together more rather than separately.I really thought that this book would be more about Sam and Liz coming together finally and moving past the pain and hurt that they had experienced in the first book. They already had so much to overcome that I didn't expect the amount of new obstacles they would have to face. As the drama kept piling up in this one, I just kept asking myself why this was necessary. They already had more than enough drama without adding the crazy they had to face in this book. I really felt like that was a lot of what left me on the fence about this book. I honestly thought at several points that Sam and Liz might have been better off apart, and it killed me to see that happen with these two. But they both made poor decisions, and I just felt like there was too much drama going on. Then we finally start to get some resolution and the story is over. The ending felt rushed and abrupt, and it could have easily been extended to give us a more satisfying place to stop. Though I was happy that all the crazy had been handled, I wanted to see what would happen for the characters beyond that. As much as I love Lexi Ryan and her books, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this one. I think that Sam and Liz fans will be happy to have more of them and to see some familiar faces, but to me this wasn't the ending that they deserved. I am excited about the direction she is headed with Max next though, and I am so glad that he will be getting his story next. I have loved him since I first met him, though I knew he wasn't meant for Hanna. I can't wait to see more of him, and I look forward to reading more from Lexi in the future.**Complimentary Copy Provided by AToMR Tours**

By BJ's Reviews *Please note that this is the conclusion to the story that began in Something Reckless which must be read first. Accordingly, the review below may contain spoilers for the Book 1. If you have not yet started this series please see my review for Something Reckless.*4 "Scandal-filled Love" Stars! Sex, love, and politics is the name of the game in Something Real. Surprisingly, this book had a slightly different feel from Something Reckless. Much less focused on the suspense, but still with a few new twists, Something Real seems to be more embroiled in revelations of countless more scandals. Sordid and shocking, each new discovery overwhelming dwarfs the prior. So much so, that that this book almost made me feel like I was watching a Jerry Springer or other similar style TV talk show. The more outrageous the better, and when multiple scandals converge, I just had that niggle of a feeling that there was just no way I could buy it all as ever having possibly happened to one couple. All that said, there is a decadent, devilish, satisfaction that one can only get from watching the downward spiral of a highly sensationalized story, and Something Real definitely delivered in that arena, ensuring I remained entertained throughout the whole read.Having finally realized her dream of getting a chance with her friend's brother, Sam, to only see it all shattered following one whopper of a misunderstanding, Liz is ready to move on in Something Real. Claiming she needs her space, she leaves Sam, though its the hardest decision she has ever made.Months later, Liz still can't seem to move on with her life. Soon, however, it appears that Sam certainly has. Becoming every news commentator's dream, Sam becomes the spotlight of the media following the leak of a certain sex tape. But things are never quite what they seem, and that's just the beginning of a whole host of truths to be unveiled. Once all the scandal-filled dust settles, can their possibly be a "real" HEA laying in the wings?Overall, I have to admit that I expected something different. Having really enjoyed the twisty, hot and suspense-filled beginning to Sam and Liz's relationship, I now was ready for the emotional growth and character building strength that it would take to overcome the devastating misunderstanding, and potentially news rocking scandal, revealed in Something Reckless. Therefore I was quite surprised when the book took yet another scandal-filled turn. It almost felt like the way to love in Something Real was the clearing of a mounting stack of obstacles. Nonetheless, perhaps in the spirit of an eye for eye, it takes one scandal to truly understand how someone else could possibly get involved in, and to help overcome, another. So, all in all, though I may have envisioned a different journey, I definitely am happy I read Something Real and, having fallen in love with Sam and Liz in Something Reckless, I most assuredly concur with the conclusion.Source: Review copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

My heart and stomach were in knots for most of the book.  The emotional turmoil these characters went through was so sad.  I was surprised with the direction of this book. After reading the blurb I was expecting it to go a completely different way.  Don't get me wrong I am not disappointed at all.  Just taken by surprise. What I truly LOVED about this book was the amount of twists and turns this story took. Just when you think you have it all figured out, some new secret would come out and change everything. This book was a fairly quick read, easily able to be read in an afternoon. I do want to warn people who are not big fans of cheating and or love triangles, this book adds an awkward spin on both of these subjects. I don't want to give anything away, but just know that this book doesn't have cheating in the normal aspect (not everything is as it seems) and it could be a love triangle to some….that is kind of a wide stretch though. This book was truly filled with a lot of angst, sometimes too much, that I honestly didn't see how Sam and Liz could get their HEA.This was a fantastic conclusion to Sam and Liz's story.  Talk about two characters who have some serious hurdles to overcome.  What an emotional roller coaster.  This book was filled with lies, secrets, betrayal, love and sex.  What a great combination!!!! I both Loved Sam and Liz but I also wanted to smack both of them. I will say that everything is revealed in the end and I was taken by complete shock how this story played out. I loved the connections that the author portrayed between these characters and all of the secondary characters. She really made me feel as the reader as a part of the circle of friends. I am anxious to read Max and Nix's story later this year!!!I would recommend this book/series to everyone who loves a story about love, lies, betrayal, and secrets. This book will for sure have you sitting on the edge of your seat trying to figure it all out. I had a really hard time putting it down, because I wanted answers. This book will definitely have your emotions all over the place, but just know that it is worth it and will leave you with a smile on your face in the end :)
