2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. simple but still manages to be somewhat engaging By kindle reader F/F romance**** novella / 86 pages ****Addison is a talented but struggling screenwriter who isn't above doing miscellaneous jobs to make ends meet. Emma is an established Hollywood actress who seems to have everything... except a real connection with someone. They literally bump into each other at an event and a spilled cup of coffee leads them to a string of coffee dates. These two are feeling some chemistry and don't want to build a connection on anything Hollywood or work, so they make a deal to just leave those things out of their weekly coffee date conversations. Now they supposedly get a chance to get to know each other without any agendas, power struggles, and other influences of Hollywood. All that mess pushed aside, there is suddenly some space for love.Nothing new here and the story and writing are pretty simple. Dialogue is also pretty simple, there's a lot of narration, and the leads aren't described much. And yet it didn't amount to terrible. The two leads hang out and find love without much grief or conflict. Addison is a lesbian and Emma is straight... not much struggle with sexuality either-- or how this might effect the actress's career. None, really. And yet the lack of conflict was kinda nice (at least for a shorter work). Just light and simple stuff, really. And yet the story still manages to be engaging. Not terribly so, but if you enjoy an easy, feel-good read that is reasonably priced and not a huge editing mess... this is the writer for you. There is one sex scene that is mildly sexy/erotic.Would I read this indie author again? Maybe... if her prices stay low. But most likely because I already have one of her other books. Am I crazy enough about this story to follow sequel after sequel after sequel after sequel (she's already on book 5).... eh, no. My attention span per lesfic couple rarely goes beyond 250-350 pages. Nor do I ultimately want to pay more for installments on one so-so story than the priciest lesfic novels of 9.99.

Off Screen is just a bit short for my tastes, but I love the writing, how sweet the story is and how both lead characters take their time getting to know each other. Becoming friends first, but secretly hoping for more, each woman is adorably endearing in her uncertainty about how the other feels.Other pluses for me include: a vulnerability and earnestness found both in the writing itself and both women. I love the author's observations on so many things, but especially how writing can heal and the fears of falling in love (and not being loved back.)What it lacks in length, Off Screen makes up for in substance. Well under one hundred pages, this novella sets things up nicely for what I hope will be a super sequel (see: The Red Carpet).

It will leave you hungering for the next one. Doesn't leave you hanging, just wanting more. Well worth the price! I really don't think you will be disappointed in getting to know Emma and Addison!
