4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Loved it! By Kav Wow! What a captivating story! Both Joshua and Mary are so positive about their futures despite their rocky pasts. Love that they are both moving forward, anchored in their faith when they first meet. Their relationship develops gently in the midst of the chaotic aftermath of a tornado. I particularly adored Joshua's interactions with Mary's daughter, Hannah. There's something so compelling about a man who loves kids. But there's also these secondary plot threads that intertwine into a surprising and explosive climax I didn't see coming. A sheer delight of a read.

Joshua' s life certainly has not gone the way he thought it would. A tornado brings them together and they begin to have feelings, but each has baggage that they are afraid to share with each other.Then one obstacles arise, but God has a way of fixing things.A very good continuance of this series and one I enjoyed reading.

Still a great read. If you liked Bernard Cornwell's Sharp Series, you'll enjoy this series as well. Waterloo is the last in the series and I'm already in the middle of the first book. Just good, uncomplicated reading.

Block Out Plenty of Time Because You Won't Want to Put It Down By avidreader When I started reading The Boy Who Granted Dreams, I didn't expect to like it. It started with Cetta's rape and subsequent bargain to pay for her voyage to America with sex (she was only 14 or 15). From there, already a mother, she went into a brothel. But mainly the story focused on the life of her son, Christmas and the girl he rescued, Ruth. It's been compared to Gangs of New York, a story so violent that I could barely stomach it. Fortunately, Boy isn't nearly as violent (that's not to say that there weren't plenty of violent parts). Interestingly, although later events take place during WW1, the war is never mentioned. To read this book, you'd think Prohibition was far more important than the war to New Yorkers.Most of the characters were richly painted. Sal, although not a particularly lovable guy through most of the book, felt very real. I WANTED to scream in his ear, 'Commit, you idiot!' Cetta was ferociously maternal, practical, and yet open in her need for something more. She was such a marvelous character. But Christmas was my favorite. When he stumbled down the wrong path into the teen gangs, I almost stopped reading but I felt that irresistible pull to Find Out What Happens. The only character that I didn't truly connect with was Ruth. She annoyed me a bit. One horrific event overshadowed her life for the entire book, 10 whole years. She didn't react with strength. Also, she turned her anger onto Christmas, the person who RESCUED her, which was unreasonable. I also loved the characterizations of the gangsters as real people rather than caricatures, especially Rothstein. Because we sometimes forget that they WERE real people.Minor quibble: What happened at the end with Bill seemed like it was written in a hurry to get him out of the way and tie up that loose ending with a big red bow. In other words, too easy and too unbelievable.This is a lengthy book, but worth the investment of time. Writing and editing were top-notch, which I always appreciate. Highly recommended.*ARC via netgalley*

It begins with a young Sicilian girl named Cetta who suffers a rape, despite her mother's attempts to keep the eyes of men from leering at her. With her bastard child, Natale, Cetta sails for America to start a new life, but the cost of her voyage is to endure the sexual advances of the captain. Upon arriving in America, the captain hands her over to a pimp by the name of Sal and Cetta begins work in a brothel. Natale, or Christmas, as he has become known, grows up in the streets of New York, among thieves and gangs. Despite the influence of crime and criminals that surround him, he manages to walk a fine line on the right side of the law. One day, he saves a young girl named Ruth from a brutal rape. She comes from a wealthy Jewish family, and although they are grateful to Christmas for saving her life, they do their best to keep them separated as their love for each other becomes evident. There are numerous other subplots and characters that feed the storyline to make this one of the richest, most engrossing novels I have ever read. I was enthralled from first page to last,At 630 pages, this is a very long book, and I couldn't have been more happy. This was a book I did not want to put down. It kept me reading long into the night. I never wanted it to end. So its length is a definite plus! The author is very talented. His scenes are highly creative, unique, compelling, and sometimes shocking. His characters are so complex, so well developed, that they definitely seem real! I cannot say enough good things about this awesome, powerful story. I wish I could give it 10 stars. Luca Di Fulvio deserves it! Utterly compelling!

It is a love story and a story of family, friends and community but ultimately it is a tale of immigration and the strength of character necessary to overcoming hardship to achieve ones goals.Author Luca De Fulvio tells the heart rending story of how Cetta at age 14 leaves her small town in Italy with her infant son and comes to New York to find work and a better life for herself and the boy she named Natale (later called Christmas by the port authorities who accepted the most likely translation of the Italian Natale). Forced to work in a brothel in order to support herself and her child, a salvation of sorts is offered to her in the form of Sal, a big gruff oaf of a guy whose countenance and demeanor belie his soft heart.DREAMS explores the beginnings of radio, and the daily existence of immigrants trying to achieve the American dream on the mean streets of New York in the late 1920's. Writing with passion and vibrancy De Fulvio brings us the story of one couple - Ruth, whose fears, defiance and strengths are many and Christmas, the man with a dream who has loved her from the first day their paths crossed.While this could be seen as a clichéd boy-meets-girls story it is, in truth, an ingenious and moving exploration of one ordinary couple's path through extraordinary times. Originally published in Italian, this tale loses none of its power and charm in the translation.

I have read all that is out in the series and they have kept me on my toes to see where the series will lead. Mia changes so much throughout and it is nice for me not to guess what will happen next as I normally can figure it out.

By Salt If you are a young adult (whatever young means to you is fine!), love God, love reading, and struggle being real in your christian faith, amidst challenges and relationships, then I do highly recommend this series ( the worthy seies) just for you.I nearly stopped reading the first book, thinking it might be a bit shallow but as I pressed on I saw myself consciously making decisions to strengthen my own faith- goes to show I shouldn't have been so quick to judge !The three books have different lessons for singles, couples and families respectively . With every page and every book, Ms Smith just got better and better. I mean, without being preachy, the entire series constantly reminded me that the reality of my faith is in my personal walk with Jesus and not in the things around Him. I am definitely moving on to the next set of books.I have to ask though, (perhaps this is not the forum to do so ), are the sections where the story is being told from Stephen's point of view actually close to the thoughts of a typical christian male? Would love to know.I am not too sure I can be considered a worthy critique of fiction having never written one in my life:(, but being a voracious reader, if I dare create my personal list of top 100 inspirational authors, S.M. Smith is on it!All in all, I absolutely loved the journey of Jessie and Stephen and recommend 'the worthy series' to anyone who loves beautiful wholesome, romantic, novels.

I read 3 - 5 books a week but rarely purchase a book. I get books from the library and get them free on my Kindle. This book is the 3rd book in a series and after reading the first 2, I had to buy this one. The characters are Christians but they are people first. There's no holier than thou stuff in this book. The main character (Jessie) kind of got on my nerves in the first 2 books because she seemed very self absorbed. Without giving away the plot, I'll say the 3rd book does a great job of tying things up. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good, clean story with some suspense but characters you can identify with.

By Rebecca Bridges "A Family Worth Fighting For" is a moving end to a series that reminds us that no matter what our circumstances, God loves us. He blesses us beyond measure even when we are going through the fire of tribulations. Being an adoptive parent who struggled with infertility and PCOS myself, I feel am thankful to have a story that mirrors the love I have felt by my Savior, my husband, and my family through it all. Thank you Sarah!

You get to really understand how things are in a Mc the good the bad & the ugly. In Wild Child you see that Jo's a free spirit and when she finds out that Nailez lied to her she runs.Nailez is so scared of marriage from his 1st wife he refused to even consider it with Jo. You get to experience the up's & downs with the club and all the couples. I can't wait for the next book in this series!!! If you enjoy Mc books this is a must read!!!

This reads like a true story. I'd suggest reading Wild Child first but there is enough back story you can read Nailed alone. Enjoyed seeing the same people with a few new names. Needa Warrant has more in store for us in Blindsided, her next book. A 5 star read for me!

After reading the first book in this series, and getting completely hooked, it was tough having to wait for Nailed and to find out Nailz and Jo's story, along with more of Kima and Veiko and some other characters I got to meet and fall in love with in book 1!! I wasn't disappointed either.Just like the first book in this series, this is not your average, run of the mill, MC book. Nailz and Jo's story is not all hearts and flowers, butterflies and cupcakes - it's a hot, and at times gritty, emotional ride you're not going to want to get off from - it's 'get in your face at times' real. Picking up where we left off in book 1, Wild Child, we get more Kima and Veiko along with Nailz and Jo's story. I love how Needa Warrant pulls a reader right in to not only the story, but in to her characters in such a strong way that even long after you finish the book, these characters are going to stay with you for a good long while.This series continues to be one of my favorite MC series out there. With quality writing and great story lines, character development and chemistry, this is definitely a MUST read and will leave you in need for more from this author.MC love, relationships and survival, this book has it all, and then some.
