Seventeen-year-old Lauren Lennox is a city girl at heart. Being born and raised in Los Angeles, California by her movie star mom and ex-child-star father sounds like an ideal childhood, but with a mother who’s always busy and a father who suffers from alcoholism, Lauren’s already parentless childhood and her resulting rebellious streak are made worse when her mother passes away and she’s left alone with her father, who doesn’t care how little school she attends, how much alcohol she drinks, or how many girls she sleeps with. When she puts too many toes out of line and a judge deems her father unfit to be her guardian, she’s shipped across the country to the rural mountains of northern Georgia, where a personal friend of the judge lives with his wife and two kids on a farm. David Marshall is a professional counselor known for “reforming unruly youth”, and as part of David’s program, Lauren will be required to work with farm animals, go to church once a week, attend counseling sessions with David, and go to a new school, all for seven months until her graduation. So naturally, her plan is simple: to have her best friend come pick her up two months early on the day she turns eighteen, and to be as difficult as possible in the meantime. Her plan doesn’t account for David Marshall’s daughter.

About the Author Siera has always loved writing, especially when it comes to what she thought was missing in bookstores: quality young adult lesbian fiction. When she's not writing, Siera lives in the heart of Georgia, where she is studying mathematics. She lives with her best friend, girlfriend, and their two adorable dogs. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. I wish Siera Maley was around when I was a teenager... By Lov2laf 4.25 stars. This is the third book of Siera Maley's I've read. I really wish there were writers like this when I was a teenager and I'm so glad that these are available now. From the first page of "Taking Flight" I was hooked and I wasn't disappointed.Unlike Maley's first two books that focused on accepting one's sexual orientation and were coming out stories, this book is more about universal issues everyone struggles with; figuring yourself out, living for yourself instead of others, being subjected to stereotypes, being loved for who you are, and letting yourself be vulnerable when you've spent your life putting up walls. While sexuality plays a role and the gay factor makes things more complicated than it otherwise would be this story is mainly about two teenagers and their personal growth rather than the sexuality itself. What I loved about this book...This is a complete character piece. Not only is it about Lauren's development as she is thrown into a completely foreign situation but it's about how she impacts the lives of everyone else around her. The characters are very well developed and it's all about interactions and relationships. Every scene, even with the smallest of characters, reveals something about Lauren and Cameron. The story isn't rushed at all, taking its time to unfold. When religion was brought up I was cringing because I thought Lauren would have a come to Jesus moment that would be the impetus to turn her character. This didn't happen and I was so glad! Not only is Lauren lesbian, she's also Atheist and stays that way. I really appreciated that. I LOVED all of the church scenes and exchanges about religion. They were handled in a very realistic, fair, and sometimes amusing way.The depiction of teenage life is pretty gritty and accurate. There were plenty of amusing bits that made me laugh and it's a completely heartfelt story. Because of the subject matter, I think this book resonates beyond the young adult audience and would be enjoyed by adults as well as all walks of sexual orientation. There are a few things I would've liked to have seen like Lauren struggling more with intimacy and vulnerability after she gets in the relationship and, in a way, I felt closer to Cameron in the first half of the book than the second so I wish that intimacy would have stayed with her. Those are subjective, though, and the story was already dealing with so much that adding more may have been epic. Editorially, there are a couple of hiccups but, overall, it's well done.Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. And, while you're at it, go pick up Maley's other books "Time It Right" and "Dating Sarah Cooper". She's definitely an author to follow and I look forward to her future works.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. An Outstanding YA Novel By GLS There are so many things to like about this story. First, it's a complete novel. What I mean is that there are a full cast of characters, and the author doesn't resort to stereotypes. It's also a complex novel that deals with a lot of issues. Issues that the author works with include neglectful parents, loss of a parent, substance abuse, sexual promiscuity, religious intolerance, bigotry, being a stranger in someone's home, therapist/patient relationships, a budding romance, and the standard high school drama. While there are a lot of elements, they're all examined deftly and with intimacy that really bring the reader into the situation. There are also a lot of subtle elements in the novel that can only be really appreciated after a second read. As an example, the fact that Lauren's friend Caitlyn drinks too, but is sober at the end of the night.I also like that this story dealt with a character in a neglectful family. I've been wishing for a YA novel that would tackle this subject. I love that Lauren was resilient enough and able to move beyond her past to do what she needed to be a healthy adult. In that regard, I think it's really encouraging. In conclusion, I very much look forward to reading other works by this author.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A five star fish-out-of-water read By Blue-eyed Girl I've read the first two of Siera Maley's books and now with Taking Flight I have to say she just keeps getting better. If she was writing in a different genre (straight YA) she'd probably have a Sarah Dessen level of following. But we're lucky that she's writing for us.The thing I enjoy most about her work is how contemporary feeling it is. I don't know how old Maley is but she does a great job of capturing what it's like to be a teen in today's world, not ten years ago or longer. The values people have are a little more fluid and uneven around sexuality today and she depicts this well in Taking Flight. Growing up in LA the main character Lauren is gay but it's not at all a defining thing for her, it's just part of who she is. But when she's transplanted to the country she's initially tentative about who she allows to know about her sexuality. There are surprises both positive and negative when she does address that, something that felt authentic to me.This book deals with some serious issues but never loses Maley's trademark lightness and humor. The characterization of Lauren and Cameron is remarkably deep and I enjoyed the way their perception of each other evolved over the course of the book. The dialogue is fantastic. Really fantastic. If I had any criticism it would be that the end maybe was a little lacking in conflict, but on the other hand I appreciate that Maley didn't opt to put us through some predictable drama with Cameron's mom. Thanks to the author and I hope we see more from her soon. There's even room for a sequel here.

The problem with this book was that it had no stories, Rupi encapsulates you in an experience. I bought this to read to my significant other, I thought it may be just another pleasantry to share, but as I read it to her, I got so lost in the experience that I forgot that there was a person next to me. Feeling like it was an out-of-body type experience, I learned, and at the end of the day, I'll be a better father, son, brother, and lover because of it. So I thank the artist. Truly a pleasure.

A Being(s) in Love Story Zeki Janowitz has returned to his hometown of Wolf’s Paw to start his wizarding career. Unfortunately, Wolf’s Paw, a werewolf refuge, follows centuries of tradition and shuns human magic and a very human Zeki. He knows he’s in for a struggle, but a part of him has always belonged in the mountain town, or rather belonged to Theo Greenleaf. Years away at school haven’t lessened Zeki’s crush on the quiet werewolf. When town gossip informs him Theo still suffers from his mate’s rejection and does not date, it does little to ease Zeki’s embarrassing feelings. He decides now’s the time to get the man he’s always wanted. Werewolves usually don’t recover from losing their mates, and Theo barely pulled through by focusing on his love of baking. It’s a daily struggle, and Zeki’s return to Wolf’s Paw shatters his peace. Theo doesn’t know what to think when Zeki attempts to woo him, talking about his wizarding business and settling in town for good. It’s like Zeki doesn’t have a clue how his words years before left Theo a shell of a werewolf. Beginners in love, Theo and Zeki must seduce each other with a bit of heavenly baking and magic.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I liked it even though it frustrated me at times By Relly I did like this one. There is definitely a theme throughout the series of miscommunication. With the guys in this story, while it frustrated me it also was a bit understandable. I didn't expect Theo to come out and say something as he was still suffering from the rejection and Zeki was still in the dark about werewolvesThe people of the town frustrated me the most. They saw the pain Theo was going through and the confusion from Zeki, he even admitted to more than one person what happened, and with the way the gossip spread around town, I would have expected everyone to know, yet no one really tried to help them, just left them to their own devices. Once the miscommunication was out of the way, I liked that they didn't immediately jump together. They took time dating and trying to learn about each other, with Theo learning why Zeki needed time to think.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is a Keeper! By MarMin I never go wrong with this author!! And this book is no exception. The two main characters are charming and a wonderful mix of steamy sexy and heartbreakingly beautiful together. The depiction of the werewolf community, along with one interesting pixie friend, is nicely developed. Coming together after a misunderstanding has kept them separated for five-years, the fragile start of trust and love that builds at a steady pace between Zeki and Theo is a nice change of pace from the "hi, I'm your mate, now we're in love" shifter stories that are so common in this genre. And the two characters complement each other so perfectly...sigh. Even though I've enjoyed this author's short stories, It was wonderful to finally see another novel from R. Cooper!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not Anything Special, but an Okay Read By llv This was the first book I read by this author and it was okay. Nothing really special for me. I liked the characters okay, but found myself impatient with them. I wanted them to communicate more and couldn't believe how long they spent pussyfooting around each other. It was annoying and I couldn't really fully enjoy the book. I actually wanted to know more about the Sheriff and his situation more than the current book I was reading. I will most definitely buy that book when it comes out.Bottom Line... I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a lite read.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Very enjoyable read. By Cat I received this book for free in exchange for an honest reviewSome SpoilersLet me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. The pace was nice and it didn't leave any plot holes or gaps that left me scratching my head. This story takes place in London 1814 during the end of Napoleon's reign. We meet Abigail the Countess of Rathbourne who has been searching for her husband for 2 years after he mysteriously disappears a couple of weeks after their wedding. We meet her on a dark road after midnight while she is returning home after a failed rendezvous with a stranger who claims to have information pertaining to her husband. They happen upon a stranger who is unconscious and bleeding. They get him in her carriage and take him to her home where they realize that he suffers from amnesia. After a few days he just disappears without so much as a "By your leave". From there the story really takes off and we meet a whole slew of people who are either friend or foe. Abigail is lead on journey of spies and allegiance as she delves deeper into the mystery of who her husband really was. She has to go back into society and deal with the "TON", all of who scorned her and spread horrible gossip about why her husband left.I was shocked how this story turned out but it was worth the read and I would definitely read more by this author

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. One of the best of Regency, INMO, top 10 By Austintatious A fast moving Regency love story with all sorts of intrigue; French and English, many bad people, many good people and the Ton is as obnoxious as ever. Easy read, the clothing descriptions were integral to the story, (nice writing Ms. Salter, it is one of my biggest peeves- stopping the story to have two pages of dress descriptions! You have done one of the best integration's of story and the dress descriptions I have read in many a year!) I was never frustrated nor bored.I loved the good people and was happy to see such delicious ends for the villains!I hope to find more of your work, but I couldn't , so I urge you to continue using your talent, as I know you will continue to have devoted readers. And I count myself one of them.

I cried out, or tried to. My packmate was thick and hard in my mouth, and my Alpha's tongue was busy rimming me.

Three weeks, and not a moment of respite. These two gorgeous Shifter studs couldn't get enough of my tight twink ass. As the Pack Grace, I was to be their emotional stability, the rock they could lean against in hard times. And sometimes I liked to lean against their hardness in fun times.

In the soft morning light, I watched our little twink. His head bobbed up and down under the covers, hungry for our packmate. As the Alpha, I positioned myself behind him, taking myself in hand...

My Packmate and I were really enjoying breaking in our twink Grace. Day in and day out, our every lustful whim was fulfilled, our every primal need satisfied. Yet he still finds ways to surprise me, and tonight would be no different. I thought it would just be another lazy day of spitroasting him, but it ended up being so much more. Almost 8,500 words of a bottom twink being taken by his two alpha male Shifter lovers.

There are few jobs more rarefied or as physically and mentally demanding as prima ballerina. And yet, despite very real professional risks, three dancers from the world-class San Francisco Ballet all decided to have children at the pinnacle of their careers. In Balancing Acts, photographer Lucy Gray takes readers on an unforgettable fourteen-year journey with these ballerinas, capturing their remarkable grit and determination. In dramatic black-and white photography, Gray documents their struggles to balance the demands of family and work—from their tireless preparation in rehearsals and dazzling mastery of craft displayed on stage, to their time spent relaxing at home with family and even while giving birth. In extensive interviews the dancers and their husbands discuss their stories with great candor, providing remarkable insight into the life of a ballerina and the everyday challenges and joys of mothers everywhere.

Review "Full of beautiful, touching and crazy adorable images." -DanceSpirit.com"In Balancing Acts, Lucy Gray follows three ballerinas over the course of 14 years, as they raise their children while continuing to flourish in their demanding careers. The book is much more than a sentimental celebration. With its intimate photos and illuminating captions, Balancing Acts brings the reader into the nitty-gritty of the ballet world, in which, since the reign of choreographer George Balanchine, female dancers in America have feared that giving birth would end their performing lives." - San Francisco Chronicle"In shimmering black-and-white, the photographs offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the lives of professional dancers: they depict them not as impossibly graceful pirouetting fairy princesses, as they might appear on stage, but as fully human, responsible for changing diapers like the rest of us." -FastCompany.com"Stunning... Gray's ambitious project (all in all, a fourteen year study) succeeded in lending a sense of universality to a deeply specific subject, proving the possibility of thriving simultaneously in one's career and in motherhood. The message is timely, important, and could not have been expressed with more poignancy than in this striking book." - Elle.com"We love this stunning collection of black and whites because it's so much more than a tribute to three amazing women-it's a model and emblem of hope for every woman who still believes they have a choice to make between success and motherhood. If there is one thing Balancing Acts teaches us, it's that the two often go hand-in-hand." -Bust.com"A fascinating glimpse of the ordinary amidst the extraordinary." - Photographer's Forum"Beautiful." - San Jose Mercury News"From ballet studios and stages to living rooms and delivery rooms, Balancing Acts is an unforgettable visual celebration of family, perseverance, and grace." -Goodreads

About the Author Lucy Gray is an award-winning photographer whose work has been featured in numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Independent, Mother Jones, Dance Magazine, and Salon.com, as well as in exhibitions and projects across the United States

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is an amazing book. Actually By Sandy This is an amazing book. Actually, I was a little disappointed by the pictures. I think the cover photo took my breath away and sold me. I wanted more of exhilaration of watching dance and family intertwined so dramatically. However, the photos focus on exploring private, more ruminative, moments -- the dressing room after a show, for instance. However, what I didn't see coming, and value profoundly, are the personal statements provided from the mothers, and their husbands. Remarkably, these statements speak frankly about the challenges of making ends meet, of finding happiness and contentment in one's relationships, of dealing with stress in one's career, of sharing ones home with little people. Truly, the honesty in this book blew me away.

By Stan Washburn The engaging thing about this book is its breadth, from stage to delivery room. Gray had virtually unfettered access to the lives of her subjects, and made fascinating use of it.
