The Hempinstall’s execute the setting with precision By Melinda The Hempinstall’s execute the setting with precision, the reader transported to the harshness, lurid and barbarous acts of the Civil War.Quite a burning narrative. The dichotomy of the two sisters – hate, love, revenge, mercy, addled, clearheaded was a plus. The contrast added scope and a certain unpredictability to both narrative and characters. The reader is on edge as dark secrets are reveled at random, an element of surprise welcomed.As much fondness as I felt for this book, I was let down by the lack of character development. We really don’t know much about Libby and Josephine “pre war.” I understand Arden is the quasi reason bringing them to war but their motivation failed to evoke emotion from this reader, I blame it on what felt like a rushed condensed abbreviation of circumstances. Each woman was so self absorbed they canceled out recognizing each other’s varied emotions, feelings, the sisterly bond of understanding divided and veered off.The ending surprised me, I thought for sure it would have taken a different turn, the way it stands it is the calm after the storm leaving me pleasantly neutral. Brutal story of love and war slanting more towards war. Historical fiction fans, Civil War buffs will find this novel absorbing, graphic details bringing the cruelty of Civil War home.

By Cheryl Stout Two sisters working together WROTE this tale of two sisters joined by a strong familial bond. The story begins in 1855 but the focus is on the Civil War years of 1862 - 1864.The story tells of the two sisters, Josephine and Libby, that join the Confederate Army as men - Joseph and Thomas - to try to get vengeance for the death of Libby's husband by Union troops.This was a well-written and researched historical novel, telling of the skirmishes and battles of this war, living conditions, and also bringing women's perspective to the ugliness of war from insider views.Smithsonian Magazine April 7, 2011 estimates that at least 400 women disguised themselves as men and fought in the Civil War. It was very interesting, thinking that this story might have actually happened.I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. Do be warned that this is a tale of a bloody, gruesome war and this tale does not sugarcoat that fact.Whether you are a history aficionado or enjoy reading about the Civil War or like strong female protagonists in a tale with a bit of romance thrown in, I think you'll enjoy this fictional account of two women fighting in a man's world.

Josephine seems to have a closer relationship to Libby than Libby does to her sister. Their lives are good until a new boy moves in and Libby starts to fall in love with him. Time passes and Libby marries her beau, but Josephine isn't very happy. She feels that Arden is taking her sister away. Josephine wishes Arden dead. However, the war begins and Arden is killed by a Yankee. Or is he?Libby is so grief stricken that she takes up the cause to kill 21 Yankees which represent the 21 years Arden was alive. Josephine isn't thrilled about going to war. However, the bond with her sister is so strong that she agrees to dress like a man, lie to their parents, and join the Confederate army.Libby embraces her new life as a soldier while Josephine flounders. War isn't for her. She doesn't want to shoot her gun. She isnt happy and at times is concerned by her sister's zeal for battle. The reader is introduced to the men fighting along side the women. We learn their backgrounds and soon Josephine starts to find love with a fellow soldier. Libby starts to lose her mind, or maybe it is already lost?The authors are very graphic with some of their descriptions of war. I didn't find this a problem, since, well, it's the Civil War and our characters are in the heat of battle. I found the relationship between the sisters interesting, and I found that it mirrored my life a little. I suppose anyone who has a sister or close friend can relate when the other moves on and finds love and one is left alone.I wasn't happy with the ending. It feels like the book ended abruptly and wasn't fulfilling. I had more questions than answers. The ending was almost too easy, and not what I expected or wanted from this novel.

Loryn had recommended a place in town that hosted local musicians on Saturday nights. Ewan assured me he and Boone would be long gone by then, and we could have all the fun we could stand without fear of bumping into them. It was clear an hour and a half into the night what Timbra's intention wasobliteration. I couldn't blame her, really. She'd been nursing a dreadful heartache. And I knew as well as anyone the driving desire to be rid of the oppression of loss and sadness. The band was surprisingly good, and when they played an upbeat song Timbra yanked me up by the arm. She threw her head back and her arms out wildly. "Let's dance!" she said. I indulged her. I had nothing against fun, after all. Timbra's lithe body swayed and rocked to the beat, assisted by some fairly potent margaritas. Without fail, the occasion of two girls dancing together served as some unspoken invitation for horny strangers to jump on back. I shook my head sharply and shooed them away. Timbra, though, was less forceful. "Hey," I warned a lanky guy whose hips seemed to move on hinges, "Were your parents octopi or something? Keep your hands to yourself!" He smirked, mitigating any handsome that might have been found in his face. "She's not complaining," he said and popped Timbra soundly on the ass. "You're the only one here with a problem." He turned from me, dismissing me well before I was through. "Listen, asshole," I yelled to be heard above the music. "She's had too much to realize what you're up to. But I haven't. You and her," I flicked my finger back and forth between them, "not happening. She's in love with someone else." "I'm not looking for love, darlin', just a little lovin'." He was behind Timbra, and banded one arm above her chest, the other at her hips, and pulled her tightly into his body. He stuck his head to her hair and breathed deeply before lowering his mouth to the back of her neck. He stared at me as he pressed his lewd lips to her, daring me to do something about it. I was steaming mad. At him. At his audacity. And furious with Timbra for getting herself into the situation. I had just lifted my hand to snatch her from his grubby tentacles when I heard a growl from the door so low and menacing it made the hair on my arms stand up. The warning was audible even over the music, and every eye in the place shot to the door. When I saw what stood at the bar's entrance I gasped and involuntarily stepped away, though the beast was nowhere near me. A vicious dog the size of a sofa stood nearly to the shoulders of the people at the bar. Even in the low light I could see that its golden hair was ruffled at the neck, a clear indicator of its intent to attack. Those closest to the beast scrambled away, clearing a better line of sight. Some crazy person approached the maddened dog, and I shook my head back and forth, silently willing the person not to go near it. Surprise suffused my spine like I'd suffered an electric shock. The person approaching the beast was Ewan--which meant...the beast was Boone. "Oh, hell," I breathed. "Oh, no." The dog stalked toward us, his rumbled growls growing more ferocious with every pace. When Octoman finally realized he was the one in the dog's sights, he threw his arms away from Timbra so dramatically it was almost comical. Almost. The palpable pull of imminent danger sucked any humor from the space. Boone's wide snarl revealed pointed teeth the size of small daggers. My every instinct told me to run. Instead, I grabbed Timbra by the bicep and threw her behind me. I'd never been around Boone's animal form and he looked violent as hell. I feared Timbra might bear the brunt of his fury. He was intent on Octoman, though, and I breathed a little easier. Mangled words escaped Boone's slathering mouth. "Hands. Off. My. Woman." The dancing idiot had the nerve to smirk again. To taunt Boone. "She wasn't complaining." Boone roared with fury, deafening those of us closest to him. It scared me. I admit it. I began backing away and took Timbra with me. Timbra, who at that point decided to clue in to her surroundings. "Boone Adder," she admonished. "Stop barking, for gods' sake. This is none of your concern." His eyes widened with outrage before he uttered a nearly imperceptible, "You. Next." Ewan had positioned himself between Boone and Octoman. Not his most brilliant move, in my opinion. "Let's go, darlin'," Octoman said before running his arm around Timbra's shoulders. I shook my head in disgust. I knew what came next. The guy was an obstinate fool. He might just deserve an ass whooping, I thought. With a powerful thrust from his back legs, Boone launched himself toward the guy, managing to knock both Ewan and Timbra to the side. Boone had Timbra's suitor pinned for three seconds, snarling wetly in his face before Octoman changed--not into an octopus, as I'd imagined--but into some sort of half-crocodile, half-human combination. He used a thick armored tail to knock Boone off him, then bolted upright on stumpy legs. His face, which had looked so natural in a snarl, elongated to house a fearsome row of jagged teeth. He snapped them with force, and the crowd erupted in a mass exodus from the bar. I looked to Ewan to see what we could do. Timbra still lay on the floor, watching in awe as the two predators circled each other. Searching for a weakness. Readying to attack. Ewan shook his head at me in a direct warning to steer clear. I was on board with that program. Getting between those two seemed a good way to lose a limb.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Hard to reconcile By Kindle Customer I've been underwhelmed by the second book and the series so far. I reluctantly like Stella. She's quirky, funny, and bold of speech. She's certainly memorable. Unfortunately she seems to be stuck in her early teens, what with all her wining and bursting into tears every other chapter. Add to that her frequent running and hiding motif...let's say I was more than a little annoyed with her lack of brains and agency. Of course, I have never been a fan of the damsel in distress needing to be rescued by someone, anyone, long as he's an available male.Plot wise, the story didn't advance much. Stella pursues another romance despite the fact she has the emotional maturity of a tween, and probably fancies herself in love (rolls eyes). Too bad her sexapades are always with characters who don't actually feel like people because they seem to just be placeholders. I can only hope future books try to develop these male characters out so I actually feel invested in them.Overall, while I find the world interesting and some of the secondary female characters, I feel like the main character is struggling with tween drama and hysterics rather than the very real adult issues in front of her. It's a hard dichotomy to reconcile.

By Samantha Pereira As soon as I finished this novel I literally said, ":sigh: I'm all for a redeemable hero so Ewan just isn't working out for me, I love Rowan Gresham." I can't help it, nobody wants the safe and boring choice, come on! I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself and need to reign myself back in.This is book two in the series and picks off right where the first book ends. Stella learns Gresham's position which sends her into a panic attack. She feels betrayed by the one person she felt she could trust but that doesn't last long when the undeniable attraction tugs at them and he apologizes. What does last is her distrust of Gresham which he proves he earned time and again. Stella gets closer to her friends and eventually turns to Ewan after separating herself from Gresham.Gresham has done what he believed to be fair and just given his position and his feelings towards Stella. He has omitted many pieces of information in hopes of protecting her which, when exposed, only further makes her feel betrayed by him. Gresham is stuck between a rock and a hard place with his ever growing desire and feelings for Stella and his duty to protect his people.Heartbreak, betrayal, loss, and dangerous situations fill this novel. Even while Stella and Gresham are being pulled apart there's an underlying tone of them needing and reaching for one another. There's a cliffhanger as there's another book and Stella may just need Gresham now more than ever with the stakes at the highest they've ever been in her life.

I loved how different it is, yet very similar to other dragon books I've read in the past. This book got down in the nitty gritty about Stella's past and she had to make a lot of tough decisions, which didn't leave her with very great options by the end of this book.Stella just wants to be loved. Sure, her mom gave her all the love she could when she was younger, but having other family members love is definitely different than a mother's love. Also, her mother was a little zoned out and weird when she was little, so the love Stella did get was a bit...spaced out. So I can definitely see her dilemma when it comes to all of the new relatives she's just found out she has and she wants to get to know all of them.Stella is a bit too trustworthing, but I think she is starting to guard her heart a bit more now that it's been scorned a few times since she found out about her abilities. I do have to say, with the love triangle thing that was from the previous book? I like where things are leading at the end of this book. I'm not giving it away if she is with Rowan Gresham or Ewan or another character. You will have to read it for yourself to figure it out. But I'm very, very pleased :)The only thing I'm angry about is that the next book is not available!! I need the next book!! This is why I hate reading series books when the series isn't complete...Oh well, I'll just have to wait. I will definitely be recommending this series to all of my friends! Love it!

I will admit it does go against pretty much everything I had learned about bodybuilding so far and this is exactly why I loved it. The author does a great job at opening your perspective on topics like proteins, acidity, supplements and digestion. I will definitely be trying out some of his methods and see for myself how effective they are.

I have read countless books on the subject and I am already in pretty decent shape. Nekoterran brings a no BS and honest approach to it. I love the part about reading this book twice. He isn't selling snake potion and his approach makes sense. It is clear he is knowledgeable on the subject. A little science brought to the table in what really is a huge science project, bodybuilding, is refreshing. I have noticed many mistakes I have been making and I am looking forward to a couple tweaks in my diet and workout routine to really get the results I am looking for. In the end i recommend this book. And on the plus side it is a shorter read compared to some of the competition The problem with most of these books is I feel like I should be getting tested at the end. You don't need to know every part of how a clock works to read the time. He teaches you bit of both but you will definitely know how to tell time by the end of the book.

Thank God!I have been body building for years and tried every supplement, every kind of protein, and every variation of workout schedules. This book gets rid of the BS clutter the "Health" industry is selling and puts you on the path to success. It does seem to be overly simple, but it works ... it works fast! The investment is minimal compared to the crap I bought before. Within three weeks I clearly saw more size and definition. No more pre-workout drinks, no more post-workout drinks, no bloating with whey protein drinks. I can workout hard and only feel the pump, not the painful recovery. Spectacular!!!

The look in your eyes says you want a little bit of both." He often second guesses himself which in certain situations is sweet other times it's dumb like his woman is ready and willing and he's sitting there changing his mind, "on second thought. I think it could be a liability. One of us could fall and break the other's arm. No way would I want to show up at the ER with a broken d***." Sam's cat was my favorite character, odd I know but I'm a cat person I got one I love dearly and wish mine would act like Sam's, "I knew that one. Every time I tried to put my arm around Sam or get closer, the cat swatted me. It was the biggest c*** block I'd ever met." I liked this book at times it was confusing because the brothers names are so close together, Trigg, Tripp and Trey.

Something kept running through my mind while I was reading The Only Way- Why didn’t anyone tell me to read Magan’s books sooner?? I mean honestly. If Magan hadn’t asked me if I would like a copy to read, I probably wouldn’t have read this one now. Only because I have a to-be-read list that is like 5 miles long. No joke. But I am so glad she asked. The Only Way was great- a very nice surprise. Although The Only Way is book 4 in a series, you do not need to read the other books first. I didn’t and I still loved it.The Only Way is the story of Tripp and Sam. Tripp has been in and out of rehab a few times. He’s the black sheep of his family. A family in the political spotlight. He’s lost, lonely, depressed and he feels like he lets his family down. Sam is the waitress he meets the night he leaves rehab. Sam finds herself with nowhere to live and Tripp steps up and offers her his couch. And so their story begins.I loved Tripp- everything about his hot, tattooed, messed up self. The poor guy has a lot of issues. If you know anyone who has ever dealt with drug addiction and depression, you know that Magan handled this sensitive topic perfectly. The feelings felt by Tripp and the relapses he has are all part of it in real life. I also loved the pace at which Tripp and Sam took their friendship and relationship. Had it been rushed, I think it would have fallen apart given both of their baggage.I really enjoyed Magan’s writing. Not only did her writing pull at my heart but she is really entertaining and funny. All of the characters are lovable and have great banter. And me, the person who doesn’t like cats in real life actually found myself liking Sam’s cat. That says a lot.I loved Tripp’s brothers- all of them. I could kick myself for not reading their books sooner. I will be reading the other books ASAP. Thank you Magan for introducing me to your words!

And meeting a feisty waitress by the name of Sam certainly wasn't in his plans, but he can't deny his attraction to the sexy red head. After helping her out of sticky situation and offering her refuge on his couch until she can find a new apartment, the two develop a close friendship. However they are both reluctant to pursue anything romantic and destroy the first real friendship they've ever had. But how long can they deny their true feelings?THE CHARACTERS:Tripp may be the black sheep of the family, but he still has a heart of gold. He wants to change his life and be able to help others who a dealing with similar issues. But he does have a self sabotaging personality. As soon as something positive happens, he has a tendency to destroy it. He grows a lot and still has a lot more work to do, but he definitely works hard to become a better man.Sam comes across as a tough, confident character who just gets on with life. While Sam is supportive in his recovery they both realise this is something he needs to do for himself. It was also great to see them develop a friendship first, before anything romantic really happened, it made their chemistry much more believable.THE WRITING:Mental illness and drug addiction are not easy topics to write about. Finding the balance between light and dark, while being realistic with the approach is tricky. I loved that Magan didn't make the journey easy on the both her characters or the reader.
