It is seven years into the siege at Troy. Neomene, younger sister of Odysseus of Ithaca, finds herself defending the Greek camp against fever and Trojan attack. In this sequel to The Girl from Ithaca, Neomene befriends the women forced to survive alongside such warriors as Achilles, Ajax and Agamemnon. As the war drags on and heroes die, she finds romance and becomes embroiled in the fate of Achilles and the city of Troy itself. "The pace and excitement of Cherry Gregory's first book, The Girl from Ithaca, is well matched here and the revisiting of the Greek myths imaginatively worked. The climatic tension between Achilles and Agamemnon keeps the pages turning, the reader becoming totally involved in Neomene's survival." Rosalind Minett, author of Me-Time Tales and Intrusion: A Relative Invasion "This story is well told, fast moving and draws the reader into Neomene's world." Janet Holt, author of The Stranger in My Life "In this fabulous follow-up to The Girl from Ithaca, Ms Gregory weaves her Homeric tapestry again to bring us the climax of the Trojan War. Plucky heroine Neomene, younger sister of Odysseus, finds herself embroiled in the destiny of Achilles and the fate of Troy. But it's not all action, her love for Agenor is growing and provides some touching moments. The conclusion, without giving too much away, gives a whole new meaning to "My kingdom for a horse!" Frank Kusy, author of Rupee Millionaire, Kevin and I in India, Off the Beaten Track, Ginger the Gangster Cat and Ginger the Buddha Cat

By Farnoosh Brock This was a fantastic sequel to The Girl from Ithaca, The Walls of Troy takes you deeper and deeper into the Trojan War and ends with the departure of the Greeks to their homelands. I'm hoping that a sequel is on the way for Odyseuss's presumably longish journey home! :) The story starts around the 7th year of the Trojan War, still through the eyes of Neomene, the sister of Odyseuss, and our little heroine. She is now more mature, grown far more than her age through the tragedies of war. She has known cold, loneliness and homesickness, love and loss, conflict and agony of seeing innocent men and women die, and friendship. I love that one of the themes in this book - which I didn't even see until I started writing this review - is the friendship that Neomene has forged with the women at the camp. Some are servants, some are former slaves caught from Troy or nearby towns that Achilles has sacked, and some are nobility now turned to slaves. Neomene is your down-to-earth royal sister who is more interested in doing the right thing than looking prim and proper and for that reason alone, we love her.The author's knowledge of the war and Greek mythology, combined with her imagination and ease of story telling, make her work such a pleasure to read. She has aroused my curiosity to learn more about this part of ancient history and that is a gift. I was never so interested in history as when I started reading historical fiction, and now I feel I know more about the Trojan war than my husband, ha ha! Seriously though, this book is exquisite, and obviously from the reviews, still a secret as it has yet to be discovered. What I wanted to know more about was the sacking of Troy when the Greeks finally got out of the Trojan Horse. I had heard that they completely destroyed Troy and while they did plenty of damage, I felt that this part of the book was less elaborate as I had hoped, but then again, that is what the author chose to show us, and perspective is everything - Neomene's point of view is what we have as she is rescued by the Greeks and escapes.I wonder sometimes what is it that makes you keep reading one book and put down another. I had several other books going before I started The Girl from Ithaca by complete accident and here I am, at the very end of the author's work on both books and hungry for a third. Perhaps, more than anything, I feel that Ms. Gregory was able to make me care about Neomene and her world and it's as simple as that. I have got to care about my characters or else, what am I doing reading this book? That's why I put down Pillars of the Earth, Outlander, Unbroken and many other "best sellers" because the main characters were bland, boring, or in some cases (I won't say which) a complete jerk! But I digress. If you care about history, Greek mythology, general ancient wisdom and characters with a sense of humor, pick up these two books. You won't regret it.

Staying true to the original Odyssey, the author develops the life of Odysseus' sister, Neomene, only fourteen when the trilogy begins (The Girl from Ithaca). Readers would gain the most enjoyment by reading this book first, set before and during the Trojan war.In the Walls of Troy, Neomene is now mature, although still in her late teens. Life was dangerous and taxing for even the high born as moral battles were played out. Loss of her beloved Antilochus and dangerous life in the war camps have prepared Neomene to face yet more dramas. She has to be messenger, nurse, supporter and confidante, all of which she manages with characteristic bravery and sensitivity. She deals with new dangers and challenges. The pace and excitement of Cherry Gregory’s first book are well matched here. The revisiting of the Greek myths is imaginatively worked. Old scores need to be settled. Years of war, hardship and loss have resulted over possession of one female, Helen. Now the climactic tension between Achilles and Agamemnon, and the effects of this on those surrounding Neomene, and Neomene herself, keep the pages turning. This book ends with the reader totally involved with Neomene’s survival. As for the fate of those setting out to sea at the end of the Greek alliance, Cassandra’s voice cannot be disregarded. The reader is left temporarily satisfied but eager to have the third book arriving soon.
