By Jack Donovan In the title essay, Cleary builds on his discussion about achieving an openness to concepts and ideas from another time -- specifically in this case, the runes. His insights into "The Fourfold" and untangling of the Nine worlds found in Germanic paganism were enlightening, evocative, even exciting. The association of Muspelheim and Niflheim with solve and coagula, in particular, stood out, and I now link Niflheim not only with ice, but with serpents and retraction, pulling in and unification. Cleary offers similar oppositional concepts for the rest of the nine worlds, and his interpretations breathed a lot of life into them for me. I’m certain I’ll come back to the book and re-read portions of these essays again and again over the coming years. I'd recommend this as a solid intro for non - "universalist" heathens attempting to process ideas from another "man-age" and make sense of them in this one.

As the main streams of commercial and academic publishing dry up (as an inevitable consequence of the commitment of those at the helm to living by lies), it is encouraging indeed to discover writing of this quality flourishing at the margins. Collin Cleary is a master, an examplar of intellectual fortitude, a penetrating guide as to how we might, as he puts it, "become who we are." Counter-Currents is a brave and increasingly invaluable publishing endeavor.

This is one of those rare books that makes one regret having given “five star” reviews to books that were merely quite good: it somehow dilutes and diminishes the effect when one comes across a book that merits the highest praise. Colin Cleary’s What is a Rune? is a truly great book by an important, even paradigm-changing author. It deserves to be read and taken seriously by anyone concerned about the origins, and future, of Man, particularly Western Man. I firmly believe that with the benefit of hindsight, Cleary’s book will be seen contain at least one seminal, epochal essay, as discussed below.Collin Cleary is perhaps the most brilliant contemporary expositor of the Germanic mythic tradition. Bringing together close readings of source materials (including the Poetic and Prose Eddas as well as materials in the Hindu and Indo-European tradition), etymological analysis (including speculation, similar to one of his primary philosophical influences Heidegger), broad and deep reading in the Western philosophic tradition and truly creative, original thought, Cleary makes the Norse mythic tradition relevant to our world and seeks ways to make it alive again.Yet, to think of Clearly merely as an interpreter or expositor of a past tradition and mythology is to woefully underestimate the originality and importance of his thought and the extent of his creative capabilities and to misunderstand the very nature of his project. His interest in the Germanic tradition does not arise out of, or merely out of, a backward-looking and nostalgic melancholy over a lost world. He wants the worldview and spirit of his ancestors to come alive today and explains why it is tragic that the people of those tradition are largely unaware of their origins and their potential. In that sense, Cleary’s project has affinities with the idea of “archeofuturism” put forward by French philosopher Guillaume Faye: we are inspired by our ancestors, not to go backward but to move forward – with the same spirit – into a new world that we will create. This is not about “LARPing” or simply propping up a static, staid and essentially dead past. It is recognizing and activating the spirit and mindset that already exists within us and that is every bit as powerful as the spirit that inspired the original myths and the Germanic cultural tradition writ large.In his first collection, Summoning the Gods, Cleary presented highly original essays on how modern Western man has lost, and might bring back, the numinous, the sacred, the meaningfully pregnant into everyday life. He continues that project with several of the essays in What Is a Rune?, particularly the Fourfold and the Ninefold, which are attempts to recreate the worldview and the mindset of the historic Germanic / Norse peoples. In understanding that worldview, for Cleary, Heidegger is just as important a figure in this tradition as the authors of the Eddas.As interesting and important as those essays are, it is with the lengthiest essay in this collection – The Stones Cry Out – that we now are presented with Cleary’s magnum opus. This stunning essay sets forth a highly original and almost awe-inspiring conjecture and hypothesis about the origin and purpose of man, and the purpose of the universe, and man’s role in carrying out that purpose. Invoking Heidegger and Hegel, among others, in formulating his theory, The Stones Cry Out goes beyond those thinkers and presents a wholly new theory incorporating researches into archeology, anthropology, aesthetic theory and philosophy to produce a truly weighty and important piece. Although Cleary is foremost a philosopher and thinker and not a political activist, yet the essay gives a new urgency and poignancy to many of the “identitarian” and dissident right movements taking shape today: it shows _why_ it is so important to preserve Western culture, to allow it to “be itself” and to enable it (i.e. its people) to take itself to the next stage.The Stones Cry Out will be viewed as a seminal and epochal essay. In setting forth his theory, Cleary also calls into question Darwinism and the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. Cleary is a pagan, so obviously his questioning of Darwinism is not inspired or influenced by “Intelligent Design” or another of the non-scientific apologies that tries to justify creationism. It is a philosophical case that attempts to show logically why Darwinism and TENS cannot be true or, at the least, are flawed or not complete pictures of the workings of the universe.I should also mention that the editing of the volume is excellent: although The Stones Cry Out rests on its own merits, the ordering of the essays leading up to it in the book does help to prepare readers for Cleary’s message. And the immediately following essay – Asatru and the Political – is also well placed as there are in fact political implications that follow from The Stones Cry Out. The book is also beautifully produced, from the cover illustration and lay-out, to the font and printing.Given the importance of Cleary’s thought and work, one may reasonable ask: What is next for Collin Cleary? I believe he may have provided a hint in the essay on Heidegger contained in this book. Cleary notes that, despite his quintessentially Germanic thinking, lifestyle and bearing, Heidegger – due to his classical education – looked exclusively to the Greeks in exploring philosophical concepts, foremost the idea of “Being”.Cleary asks: “Why then, when [Heidegger] considered how ‘we’ once oriented ourselves toward Being, did he not explore the ancient myths and texts of Northern Europe? I am thinking, of course of the Eddas and Sagas, and other sources. Why did he not delve into the research of the Brothers Grimm, and others, into Germanic myth and the sources of Germanic language. It is a pity that he didn’t.” Cleary then continues: “It is just left to someone else to do the philosophical work Heidegger didn’t do: the work of revealing how Being disclosed itself to the ancient Northern European peoples.”Collin Cleary has obviously begun that project himself in his two books of essays, but it is clear he considers that work largely undone. We, his readers, can look forward with hope that he will continue to take this task upon himself. It will be a philosophical and literary boon worth waiting for if he does.

I have been fond of getting Vegan cookbooks because Vegan diet is a thing now, like a famous rock star. I love eating veggies and would like to try a lot of recipes from the cookbooks I got from the past. However the ingredients needed are a bit pricey that is why I lost interest. Having this book, I am happy that I can continue with my Vegan diet with just small amount of money involved to get all the ingredients needed. It doesn’t offer 100+ recipes but I must say that this is a competitive cookbook. Great work to its author.

Eyde has a talent for natural interactions, subtle humor, explicit erotica, and some really good twists and reveals. FYI, As the stories go along in this short story set, less sex is present until the last story doesn't depict it at all.It's money well spent and definitely worth the read.****TAMING THE BOSS:4.0 stars.This is a pretty excellent erotic short story.Another reviewer mentioned that it opens with a sex scene which can feel like we maybe wandered into the wrong erotica...don't fret, though. After the first scene, we get to know the characters and the dynamic between the boss and the assistant. Not only is there power play but a romance is in there, as well. All of the scenes are steamy and extremely well written. I felt there was a subtle line of humor traced throughout the story, too. The boss is crazy neurotic and her assistant knows how to bring out the best in her...by the end we're wondering who's the boss of whom? There's a really great dynamic here between both characters and a fun read.Recommended.****CELEBRITY PASS:3.9 stars.Celebrity Pass is a play on the "freebie celebrity list" where a person can sleep with a certain celebrity without their partner getting upset.We meet "Cassie", the reporter, who is star struck with Isabel, the celebrity with whom she's been granted an exclusive interview. A day that starts off miserably turns into a dream come true when Isabel shows a sexual interest in Cass...and the story continues from there.As I read, I inwardly cringed because infidelity entered the picture. If this puts you off do keep reading. There is a twist. I was really, really hoping there was a twist and was thankful that the author gave us one! This story has erotica, sweetness, and humor.Worth the read.****INSTAMEET:3.8 stars. This is a cute and somewhat erotic short story.Chloe is in Melbourne to deposit the ashes of a dear friend of hers. That's not the most erotic background to set a love story to but her roommate back in Brisbane has told her to stop by and see her sister, Evie, while she's in town. Upon meeting, Chloe is immediately attracted and an amusing flirtation ensues that blossoms into a love story.Like Camryn Eyde's other short stories, there is some humor present along with an elicit sex scene. Eyde does both of these well and is really good at depicting natural interactions.Good read.****SHE:4.0 stars.This is a really interesting short story depicting a curmudgeon love interest with a penchant for swearing. I appreciated this one because it showcased a mature couple and not your typical love interests. Like Eyde's other works there's an interesting reveal in this one so I won't spoil it. The developing relationship here is really sweet and even pulls at the heartstrings a bit because you can feel the love in it.Really well done.

By a l sparrow Having just finished this author's book, The Woman Upstairs, I wanted to read more of her work. I purchased this collection of short stories and was not disappointed. One revelation not evident in the The Woman Upstairs is this authors amazing flair for majorly steamy erotica. The last story, She, was a delight, with two characters and a love story I would love to have seen expanded into a full novel.

She writes great romance, establishes really interesting characters, and keeps me laughing. She's definitely on my "must buy" list.I have to take away one star, though, because she did something (again) that makes me absolutely crazy. I was happily reading along and then came to a character talking about the author. As in, "Kate Perry is my favorite author. She's such a great writer." Scrrrrrreeeeeeccchhh. It pulled me out of the story world instantly and I had to get past my annoyance to keep reading.I've read reviewers of her other books where she has done this comment about how funny it is. I don't agree. I wish the author would let us spend the entirety of the book living in the world she crafted instead of trying to toot her own horn where it really doesn't need to be tooted.

I immediately fell in love with Kate's stories when I started reading the Laurel Heights series but The Summerhill series is divine. It's a perfect ending to finish with Bea, the sister who suffered the most because of Reginald. The most successful sister, the true glue of the family and she deserves the best, Luca, the only alpha male who could win the heart of an alpha female such as Bea. Kate has me hooked on her books I love her series and excited that this series has a spin off. Maybe the Summerhiil sisters will have cameos in this new series. Kate is the only author that is on my auto purchase list. It kills me to say anything negative about her books but I hope she listens to her readers and stops mentioning herself in her stories, it pulls me right out of the lovely fantasy world she has created. I know you think it's funny Kate, but stop it. Thank you for creating such strong sexy female characters.

She knows how to create such addicting series that no one reader can stop reading the series. Kate Perry has finally wrote about Beatrice and Luca love story. All reader have been waiting for Beatrice and Luca story that it did not disappoint at all. All reader will love how hot Beatrice and Luca chemistry are because they will burn the pages as you read through their story. Beatrice is the oldest sibling in Summerhill that she had big responsibility in her family. She has always been known to take care of her family. She never depend on anymore because she never wanted to disappoint her father. I definitely love when I get to see the valuable side of Beatrice that I finally get to know more about her. She fears of losing her independence if she depends on someone. However, there is one man who will totally move heaven and earth for Beatrice, which is the sexy and sinful Italian Luca. Luca has always known his feeling for Beatrice but it is a hard struggle to convince Beatrice about his strong love for her. However, I definitely know that Luca is a determined men that he is the one for Beatrice. Kate Perry has created another bestseller! *Five Star*

Amazing end to Meg and Alex's Story By becca For those of you who have read the double threat books from megs point of view I say these four from Alex's point of view is a must. You can buy them as a whole or split them up so that you don't have to worry about younger minds reading everything from Alex's more adult perspective. None of it is too bad but it may not be totally appropriate for younger teens to read the last part of this book. The story is just as amazing from Alex as it was from meg. This book has made me laugh made me cry and made me remember my first live on more than one occasion. At 33 I find it amazing that a book that I started reading before I let my niece read it could effect me so much. I love these characters and these books.

By Lauren Lascola-Lesczynski Even thou I knew how this series ended I still loved reading all the important life events from Alex's point of view. I am a sucker for a happy ending and if you are then this is your book!!!!! Maybe will get some books about Evan and Emma :)

By OLT As seems to be the case for Tracy/Teresa Grant, she likes to keep her readers on their toes by having her novellas move us back in time, while the novels keep on advancing. So this novella takes place in June of 1814, one and a half years after Suzanne and Malcolm's marriage.It's Suzanne's first ever visit to England. She'll be meeting Malcolm's family and friends and, of course, there will be O'Rourke, her French/Irish spymaster, to entrust her with a mission: the retrieval of some information a turn-coat French emigre spy plans to sell to the Austrians. But at the same time, Malcolm has been commanded by his British spymaster to do the same thing. Oops.All this and family issues too and it's a very short story, but Grant manages to develop it nicely and surprisingly deeply for all that. BTW, Malcolm doesn't yet know here about Suzanne's role as French spy. That came out in The Berkeley Square Affair (Malcolm & Suzanne Rannoch Historical Mystery Book 7) and left us hanging at the end about their future as a couple.But not to worry (at least I hope there will be no worries) because The Mayfair Affair (Malcolm & Suzanne Rannoch Historical Mysteries Book 9) will be available May l5, 2015. That will be the latest in the series and will begin in March of 1818, more or less where the previous book ended. I'm so hoping the new book will resolve this couple's issues. I have this ridiculous need for them to make a success of their marriage.

Been through two wars with him. Saved his life. He saved yours. And all that stuff happened before this book’s events began to unfold. It’s just the secrets that haven’t been revealed, hardly suspected. Thankfully, our hero and heroine are sufficiently entertaining – and entertained themselves – that all, characters and reader alike, can get caught up in solving a mystery that though close to home, very close, is yet not at the center of their marriage and family. And, oh, it’s much more difficult to meet the members of his family for the first time than to solve any – or keep any – of the secrets.

Her novellas give just enough of the Rannoch's to make the reader want to pick up one of her novels and get a real taste of their adventures. All her books are a must read!
