The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Xist Classics), by Mark Twain

From School Library Journal Grade 5 Up-British actor Mike McShane provides a superb portrayal of Mark Twain's classic characters, nailing the Mississippi drawl and cadence. For those who know and love the story or are following along with an unabridged edition, however, this production is marred somewhat by what the publisher has chosen to leave out. The more descriptive chapters are shortened or expurgated entirely, which is understandable in the interest of editing for time. Some of the more distasteful racial epithets are gone as well, although Injun Joe retains his moniker. Sid and Mary are also cut entirely, as well as references to smoking, slavery, most of Tom's ludicrously funny romantic notions about the violence inflicted by pirates and robbers, and even the naked figure in the schoolmaster's anatomy book. The result is a watered down Tom and, especially, Huck. The ending also lacks the satisfaction of the original version. The party scene where the fortune is revealed has been cut as has Twain's concluding paragraphs which "endeth this chronicle." It lacks even the closure of the customary, "You have been listening to-." The sturdy plastic case will survive many circulations. If your facility serves an elementary-age population for which the language of the original would not be appropriate, or there is a teacher looking for a sanitized version, McShane's excellent performance makes this edition worth recommending.Diana Dickerson, White Pigeon Community Schools, MI Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal Huckleberry Finn may be the greater book, but Tom Sawyer has always been more widely read. Moreover, it is a book that can be enjoyed equally by both children and adults. Twain, who called it a "hymn" to boyhood, would be thrilled that in narrator Patrick Fraley his hymn has found its most passionate voice. Many good unabridged readings of Tom Sawyer have already been recorded, but most are simply that: readings. Fraley's performance is something more; in attempting to bring each character to life, his enthusiasm for the material is so palpable that the mere sound of his voice commands attention. A can't-miss addition to all libraries, including those that have other Tom Sawyer programs. Kent Rasmussen, Thousand Oaks, CA Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist Gardner’s reading of Twain’s classic convinces us why certain titles remain in the pantheon of must-reads (and must-listens). Gardner’s resonant tones roll over the rich, extensive vocabulary, almost as if Twain himself were telling the story. He reads the varying country dialects in a natural manner, conveying Tom’s spunkiness and quick wit. He uses higher pitches for the female characters, imparting an innocent breathiness into Becky Thatcher’s dialogue and a solid, forthrightness into Aunt Polly’s. Although the nineteenth-century language and syntax may seem a bit arcane, the delightful audio enables kids to enjoy this compelling tale, which might seem daunting in book form. The cover art depicting Tom and a friend whitewashing the fence is appealing. Grades 5-8. --Patricia Austin

Frank This review applies specifically to the April 2010, Sterling Edition, illustrated by Robert Ingpen:I'm beginning to feel quite frustrated with the limited publishing information given to books on Amazon. For example, most books where you may click to "look inside" will default to the most common paperback. For books like Tom Sawyer, that is fine if you need the book for high school English class, where any copy cheap enough to write notes in the margins will do. I wanted a copy of Tom Sawyer to keep and love. I saw this publication on Amazon, but it had so little info and the one review given was a single sentence about the general value of Twain's story. The truth is, one doesn't buy this particular printing unless one is already convinced of it's literary excellency! So I am about to do Amazon a huge favor by telling you what it didn't tell me. For about $15, the asking price at the time of this review, you can invest in a real treat for your self or someone you love and wish to inspire. This printing was meant to mark the one hundredth anniversary of Twain's death (2010). The story is unabridged, provided in full original text. It is positively rich with watercolor illustrations by Robert Ingpen. I just skimmed through the book looking for one that I especially liked, but I couldn't pick just one. In design, they are exactly as I would have dreamed them to be. Barefoot Tom, balancing a piece of straw on his nose, Huck Finn with a dead cat, Tom and puppy in church, Injun Joe- terrifying....each one pulls me in to read the text. The fabulous, wrapping cover art is also printed at the end of the book, so won't be lost if the dust jacket is damaged. The sewn binding is well constructed and the book lays nearly flat when open, so you may enjoy all of the pictures and layout without damaging the book. The inclusion of a pale blue place marking ribbon is a lovely touch. There is a thoughtful biography of Mark Twain proceeding the story. Also, provided are the author's and illustrators notes.I have a boy, six going on seven. He is a reader and is happy to consume Magic Tree House and Box Car Children books at alarming speed under the covers at night when he is supposed to be asleep. I'll admit I was missing our former habit of reading together. So we read classics aloud together as a family. For less money than a video game this book will provide hours of family entertainment. I hope my son will be inspired to read it again and again. It will have a place in our library and be a reference for years to come. It is heirloom quality. It would make a very special gift to a favorite boy of any age. In fact, I am considering getting another copy for my father, who loves Twain. Incidentally, not being able to ascertain the quality of this book through the Amazon web site, I went to a little local bookstore where I could put my hands on it first. I ended up buying it there, paying full price- about $5 more than Amazon was asking. They wrapped the book for free in nice heavy paper and since there was no shipping- I think I came out better for it. Before my son had opened this package, he knew it was a book to be awed by. Awesome it is- mostly for Mark Twains' masterful kntting of prose, but also for the cover and publishing.

Davis The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: Unabridged and IllustratedThe Adventures of Tom Sawyer that I bought from amazon.com is a paperback Piccadilly Classics (Unabridged and Illustrated) edition, written by Mark Twain (Samuel Langborne Clemens) and illustrated by T. Williams, and published by Piccadilly Books, Ltd. copyright 2010.I am VERY pleased with this edition's keeping to the Mark Twain's original manuscript and the use of (from my understanding...and by the looks of it) wonderfully-used original illustrations. I mean, really, the size of the book, typeface and insertion of the illustrations are artfully done and flow very nicely. The thing that makes me sick about this book, is that it is less than 1-month old and falling apart DURING my first reading of it. Such a fun, beautiful and timeless book deserves to be printed accordingly. A classic deserves a matching binding and cover quality that will withstand numerous generations of readers effortlessly.Specific problems I have had with my copy include: (1) The pages are bound together unevenly. I had a mind just to send the book back to amazon when I saw this flaw, because I knew they would right the problem immediately. My kids saw some of the illustrations and cover, however, and were so ready for me to read it NOW, that I kept it and decided it would just be an imperfect addition to our library. But more imperfections promptly presented themselves. (2) Because of the uneven binding job, the cover tore at the bottom where there are no pages to hold it up (the unevenly bound pages "slant" to full starting at the front cover back). (3) The cheaply-laminated cover has ALREADY started curling apart at both corners (front and back), and in the middle (front and back), where I hold the book to read it.This edition was unfortunately not available in hardcover. I would LOVE a hardcover, quality copy of this specific edition!

Only fools would suggest otherwise. Unfortunately, other fools have censored both books. This is an obscenity. Do these morons actually think that they need to protect the reading public from ideas that were the cultural norm 175 years ago? What unmitigated, insufferable, ignominious gall. Thankfully, Amazon can still provide us with the original versions of these brilliant books. The suggestion that reading Twain in his original prose somehow endangers the public good is both specious and ridiculous. So, then, if we read Lolita will we become pedophiles? If we read Pound will we become fascists? If we read Portnoy's Complaint will we masturbate constantly? The exquisite sensitivity of some groups within our society says more about their determined unwillingness to embrace the freedom and democracy they enjoy than anything else. To hell with them. Buy these wonderful books and read them guilt-free.

Review R.T. Book Reviews, March 2015 4.5 StarsMajor spins her storytelling web with a visual narrative that enlivens the majestic beauty of Colorado while telling her heartbreaking tale. Her use of timely humor softens the string of tragedy. Watching the couple rise from the ashes of their destructive paths is exhilarating.

They'd sent off Josh and Sara half an hour ago in a flurry of well wishes and whistles, but the absence of the bride and groom hadn't seemed to dampen the party atmosphere in the least. He was happy for Josh, and Sara seemed amazing, but that didn't mean he liked wedding receptions. He curled two fingers into his collar and tried to stretch the starched fabric. This was the first time in his life he'd worn a tuxedo, and he hoped it would be the last. He was ready to head back to Josh's ranch and crawl into bed for the night. His brother Jake had left already, using the fact that he was driving Josh's daughter, Claire, home as an excuse. Logan figured it had more to do with Jake's need to get away from the boisterous crowd drinking and dancing in the private reception hall above one of Crimson's popular downtown restaurants. Logan had been close to making his own escape, but his new sister-in-law had cornered him on her way out and made him promise to dance with one of her single friends before he left. He'd worked his butt off all night to avoid getting entangled with any of the women at the wedding, limiting his dancing to his thirteen-year-old niece. But he'd been unable to resist Sara's plea. Now he surveyed the couples on the dance floor and the people scattered at tables around the room. His eye caught on a woman seated by herself to the side of the dance floor. She looked as uncomfortable as he felt. Her dress was pale pink and her hair was pulled back from her face in an almost severe knot at the back of her head. Sara had described her friend Olivia as a very pretty librarian type. Logan didn't know if he agreed with that, but decided she must be the woman. As he approached her, the music changed to a slow ballad. Damn. He'd been hoping to make it through some hokey line dance with her and call it good. He thought about ducking away, but her gaze lifted to his so there was no turning back. "Would you care to dance?" he asked, stretching out his hand, palm up. She eyed his fingers as if they were spikes on a cactus. "Why are you asking?" He hadn't expected her question. Logan couldn't remember the last time--if ever--a woman had offered any resistance to his interest in her. One side of his mouth lifted. "We're at a wedding. There's music." He took a step closer and brought his hand to his hip. "I'm Logan Travers, Josh's brother." Her big gray eyes flicked to his before returning to the dance floor. "I know who you are, and I'm guessing Sara put you up to this." He didn't bother to deny it. "I don't know her well, but she's pretty insistent when she wants something." "They've left," the woman answered tonelessly. "You're off the hook." That was exactly what he'd wanted mere minutes ago, but now he felt like he was getting the brush- off. "You don't think she'll be looking for a report after the honeymoon?" "You seem to know Sara better than you think." Her mouth curved into a genuine smile. Logan lifted his hand to his collar again, unable to explain the heat that shot through his spine. The woman stood and he was surprised at her height, especially since her shoes had very little heel. She was nowhere near as tall as he was, but at six-foot-three he was used to towering over most people. She was just a slip of a thing but only had to tip her head a bit to look him in the eye. Suddenly he wanted nothing more than to take her in his arms and discover if she'd fit there as well as he thought she would. "I'm Olivia," she said and extended her hand. He covered her fingers in his and tugged her toward the dance floor. "You don't have to do this," she protested. "I want to." He pulled her into his arms, maybe a bit closer than was necessary. Automatically, her left hand came to rest on his shoulder as he kept her right one wrapped in his. He couldn't help but notice the enormous diamond on her ring finger. He was almost blinded as it caught the light. Sara had asked him to dance with her single friend, but the ring meant there was more to the story. He tried to ignore his curiosity as his fingers brushed the gauzy fabric of her dress along her back. A few pieces of mahogany-colored hair fell loose against her neck and he reveled in their softness as the strands grazed his cheek. She smelled like flowers, and he resisted the urge to bury his face in the crook of her neck and breathe in the fragrance. He gave himself a few moments to regain his control. Clearly he'd been too long without the company of a woman based on his body's reaction to Olivia. She wasn't his type in any way. She was too refined, too fragile, too reserved. Logan liked his female companions loud and fun. He was in it for a down-and-dirty good time. Everything about Olivia screamed out of your league. He was smart enough to believe it. "Why don't you have a date?" he couldn't help asking. He felt her body stiffen but her voice was calm when she answered. "My husband was a serial cheater who ran off with his secretary a few months ago." His step almost faltered at her blunt honesty. He leaned back to look into her eyes. "Then he didn't deserve you in the first place," he told her quietly. Her breath hitched as her mouth formed a perfect O. There was a bleakness in her gaze, a quiet desperation that Logan hadn't seen in a woman since he'd looked into his twin sister's eyes almost ten years ago. Olivia Wilder was broken, he realized. He didn't know her husband, but had the fierce desire to plow his fist into the other man's jaw. "He wanted to discover his bliss," she said after a minute. "The life we had was stifling for him." "Tell me you're not defending the jerk." She shook her head but her eyes dropped to his bow tie. "It will be better in the long run." "Is that what he told you?" "It's what I tell myself to get through each day," she answered then blinked, her eyes filling with tears. The music ended and she pulled away, but he held on to her hand. "Let's get a beer." She shook her head as if realizing she'd revealed too much but followed as he led her off the dance floor toward the bar. He could feel the weight of the stares from the other guests. He hadn't stepped foot in Crimson in close to a decade and saw no point in making friends during this return trip. He planned to get the hell out of town as soon as Josh and Sara returned from Hawaii. Without letting go of Olivia's hand, he grabbed two beers from the bartender and made a path toward the hallway that led to the stairs by the main restaurant. He wanted to head outside, but he knew it was too cold for her in that thin dress. It was late March and at the nine-thousand-foot altitude where Crimson sat nestled in a valley high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the temperature at night was still below freezing. Instead, he took her to the back of the restaurant, which was empty so late on a Saturday night. He pulled out a chair and she sank down, cradling her head in her hands as her shoulders shook. "Go away," she mumbled between her fingers. Logan opened the beer bottles and sat one on the table in front of her. "Drink this."

She had been married to the mayor of Crimson until he cleaned out their bank accounts and ran off with his secretary. She's been left dealing with the fallout and it hasn't been pleasant. But she likes the town of Crimson and would really like to stay. Her friends are also trying to convince her that she needs a new man in her life, but that's the last thing she wants right now. That is, until she has a dance with Logan at her friend Sara's wedding. There's an instant attraction between the two of them that she doesn't know what to do about. Logan is six years younger than she is and a whole lot sexier than anyone she's ever been with before.Logan came back to Crimson for his brother's wedding, but he has no intention of staying for long. There are way too many bad memories associated with the town. His father had been wildly abusive to him and his siblings, and after his two older brothers left, it only got worse for him and his twin sister. The coped by acting wild and out of control, and then his sister died in a car accident. Logan blamed himself and became even wilder, until one event made him realize he was headed for worse trouble. He left Crimson and didn't come back until now. He has turned his life around and has a successful job in construction. He gets talked into dancing with Olivia at the wedding and is surprised by the attraction he feels for her, especially since she claims she's not interested.Olivia has taken on the project of trying to get the Crimson community center's renovation completed. It has come to a halt because of the actions of her ex-husband and she doesn't want that to happen. As the current contractor is married to the woman her ex ran off with, he's not interested in helping. When Olivia finds out that Logan is qualified, she begs for his help. Now they are spending a lot of time together and that attraction they feel is getting stronger.I loved seeing Olivia and Logan together. He doesn't care about the age difference. He simply sees an awesome woman that he's attracted to. He also sees the the grief she's been getting because of her ex and does his best to show her that she is not responsible for his actions. He also shows her that she is an attractive, sexy woman that he enjoys being with, even though he feels that he's no good for her. At the same time, Olivia gets to know Logan for who he is now. She didn't know him when he was a troubled teen, so those times make no difference to her. She tries to show him that it's who he is now that's important. After awhile, the age difference starts to be of less importance to her also. But Logan is still determined to leave when his work is done, even though he finally admits that he has fallen in love with Olivia.I really wondered how things were going to work out for them, with the way Logan was determined to leave and Olivia loving her new life in Crimson. Things got really rough for Olivia when her ex came back to town and started making trouble for her at the opening of the community center. I really loved the way Olivia had changed so much from the woman he had known, and what she did to him at the opening. That was then followed by Logan's big moment, making for the perfect ending to the book.*copy received in exchange for honest review.

Add in the setting of Crimson and two characters who are destined for each other despite the odds and I call this a perfect story. Olivia is trying to recover her life and her finances (as well as her broken heart) after her husband did the absolute worst he could do. (I'd say more but I don't like spoilers) She's buried herself and her heart into renovating the Crimson community center and getting a new guy is the last thing on her mind. Logan, or very swoon-worthy hero (who was once the town bad-boy--with a past worth reading about--just wow--love how these two have such depth) he is back in town for a wedding--the same wedding Olivia happens to be attending as well. Sparks do fly, but it takes awhile for these two to trust each other, which is why you keep turning the pages and get so many butterflies. There are a ton of reasons for these two not to make it, but every kiss has you knowing and cheering for that happy ending. A wonderful read, highly recommend this as well as all of Michelle Major's work.

Olivia picks up the pieces and continues work on the Community Center close to her heart. Enter Logan, a magically dance and her offers to help her finish the Center. But he always maintained when the job was done, he had to leave, too many bad memories in Crimison for him to stay. Ultimately, he sees through her brave act as she does his tough facade and both discover just how right they are for each other. If you enjoy second chance stories with happy endings, this book is for you. A swoon-worthy hero with a bad boy rep and a heart of good, plus a heroine who doesn’t know how strong she really is add up to a great read with an interesting twist. Another book well done by Michelle Major.

A cat-woman doll found at a garage sale reveals a lonely woman's magical destiny...Note: This 5000-word short story was previously published as part of the SHE SHIFTERS anthology. It may be short in length, but it's not short in passion! *~*~*~*~*Excerpt: Mallory set "Miss Kitty" on the bookshelf beside her computer. She'd brushed away as much dust as she could before sponging away the grime. She'd reattached the tail with tiny stitches. While she'd worked, she'd admired the craftsmanship of the strange little doll. The fur suit was seamless and molded to the figure. The small face wasn't hard plastic, but something softer, with the texture of real skin. The lips, with their cat's cleft at the center, were parted with a row of individually attached teeth beneath them. She'd stroked her thumbnail over the soft lashes surrounding those shining eyes--each lash appeared to be embedded in the lids.Perhaps there was more to the doll than what she'd originally believed. Promising herself to do a little Internet search in the morning, she turned off the bedroom light and climbed into bed.Her head no sooner hit the pillow than she heard something drop to the floor. The sound was soft, but solid. She sighed and reached to turn on the bedside lamp. Glancing in the direction of the sound, she scanned the floor, but found nothing out of place. Only mildly perturbed, Mallory reached for the light then paused. Her gaze flicked to the bookcase. Her new doll wasn't on the shelf where she'd placed it.Dammit. She'd never sleep until it was back where it belonged. She crawled from the bed and searched the floor beneath the shelf. Nothing. She pulled out her desk chair to see if it had somehow tumbled beneath her desk. "Weird," she said under her breath as she pushed the chair back into place.A skittering sounded in the closet beside the shelf, and her heart rate accelerated. "What the hell?" The sound was too small to be a hidden intruder. Wary, she approached the closet. The door was open only a crack. Did she have a mouse? The mystery over the doll was forgotten as she worried how she'd trap it. Inching the door open, she reached inside for the string attached to the lamp on the ceiling.A loud thump came from the back of the closet, and Mallory jumped back. Too freaking big to be a mouse. Fuck! She backed up two steps, and then ran for the bedroom door. Before she'd gone three steps, something pounced on her back, taking her to the carpet. Hands wrapped around her wrists, pinning them to the floor. Mallory bucked, panic making her breaths come in short, shallow sobs."Don't be afraid," purred a feminine voice from right beside her ear.The raspy quality of the voice caressed nerves Mallory chose to ignore. "Get off me," she ground out."I think I'll stay here for a moment. I don't want you bolting again, because I wouldn't like to hurt you. You smell good.""What the fuck were you doing in my closet? What do you want?"The body covering her back resettled, curves molding to Mallory's. "I'm not sure why I'm here. Are you a witch?" The woman's hips undulated, grinding against Mallory's ass.Which made it very hard to think. "Am I a wha--"A snarl sounded. "Just shut up a second. I can't think." A rumbling purr vibrated against her, growing louder as the woman on her back nuzzled her neck."What are you doing?" Mallory asked in a very small voice, wondering if she was going to be raped by the woman and why that thought didn't terrify her more."Mmm... I'm doing what I couldn't when you groomed me."

By agnese kohn wow!!!!!!just finished to read this story and it was different for me cos i never read this genre, first time, and it is good, quick, fast and easy to follow...The story line flow perfectly, well written and as also the characters,Mallory & Katya and more personage added like Agnes....This is also a paranormal read so you will find, claws, tail, magic, hot steamy scene, spell, sensations,a fantasy real/unreal,witches,and now with this description of my feeling toward the tale you have to read it to know more of it...So see there is always a first time and i'm glad that tried this short novella.i did like the all development of the story,.Author Delilah Devlin did it again, she never disappoint me with her books and this one was my first of this genre(Lesbian paranormal)and not just cos it was my first but i really do love the way she writes and can deliver any type, genre(erotic romance, paranormal erotic,....)of story....Now,comes the waiting part for more cos this story/series cannot end, need to know more.....Well Done!!!!!!!!

By ButtonsMom2003 When I asked to read the ARC of Catnip I wasn't sure what I was going to think - I thought that I wouldn’t really like an F/F story. However, I love Delilah’s books and I really wanted to see what I thought about this one.Well, it was hot, sexy and also a bit naughty/taboo since “Miss Kitty” was part cat when the sexy stuff started. I enjoyed it and I loved how it ended.Once again, Delilah Devlin continues to prove that she is the queen of short erotic fiction – at least for me.I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The story is quick but HOT HOT HOT. The story is great as well as the characters, if you’re looking for a new naughty bedtime story I recommend giving it a try.

Favors, be careful asking for them, because they have to be repaid. Repaying her debt Gerald Shem has sent Mia to New Orleans, Louisiana to be part of a team of sensitives and psychics who were coming together to aid in the crossing of lost spirits. Meanwhile, the PEEPs are investigating the Little Goodwin Village Library where a bevy of ghosts have entered and have yet to check out. She meets with others that help ghosts go on to other plains as well as defeating evil spirits and a young demon or two. There is an entity trying to take over the big easy and Mia is the go-to girl to get it done. Some questions are answered about Mia's powers and insight into her past. The Peeps have their own investigation and are keeping busy. It is once again, a great read!

By Paladinian I didn't think that I would like this book, because I read that Mia would be away from the team, in New Orleans. Well it isn't like she is really AWAY for much of the story. And there is another thread going on with the rest of the team while she is gone. It is really well done, with a lot of new situations and a couple of interesting new characters whom we will probably see again.I never thought that demons could be funny, until this book.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Never a dull moment in this book! By Jill T. Ellis Another great PEEPs book! Some series get stale after a while but Alexie Aaron keeps things interesting and never dull book after book. The characters continue to grow and you can feel them become part of your life with each novel. I enjoy this series and am always sad when I finish the latest book knowing I have to impatiently wait for the next. Lovers of paranormal and mystery will enjoy this series. Another great one as usual Alexie!

Marc knows Anne is off-limits—especially as she's unlikely to trust any man again—but being around her is such sweet torture! And when a late-night swim leads to a steamy kiss, Marc and Anne start to wonder…dare they take a chance on a future together?

#Player (Hashtag Series Book 3), by Cambria Hebert

Review "It's not #Player its #Perfect!" - Musings of the Book-a-holic Fairies, inc.

From the Author Hey Nerds! #Player is the ending to Romeo and Rimmel's story!! It has NO cliffhanger and has an HEA (happily ever after). The next book in the hashtag series is Braeden's book titled #Selfie! Happy reading!

From the Inside Flap Excerpt from #Player! The azure shade of his eyes caressed me to my soul. I swear he looked at me like no one else ever could. It was like there was nothing else in existence except me. It was like he wasn't just looking at me, but in me, and I was the most precious thing he'd ever seen. I got caught up in that gaze. I got caught up in him. My chest felt like it caved in, but not in a disaster sort of way. Like it was sealing in everything he was saying even though no words ever left his tongue."How do you do it?" I whispered. My tongue felt thick against the roof of my mouth."Do what?" he asked. That look never once left his eyes. If anything, it swept me in tighter."How do you look at me like... like I'm everything?" He made a low sound in the deepest part of his throat. Sort of like a growl, sort of like an agreement. "Because you are." "Romeo." I sighed. "Rimmel," he replied. "Don't forget." I started to pull back from the moment, but his fingers tightened on my hip. I looked back up. "Don't forget this moment. Don't forget the absolute truth in the way you feel right now. I love you and I'm not going to stop." Emotion welled up in my throat and tears rushed to the backs of my eyes. His words were beautiful, but it was the reason he said them that had me so choked up. This wasn't the end.Beyond this moment, this quiet, whole moment with him, were many more. Many more that weren't going to be like this one.We were going to have to keep fighting to keep what was ours."I'm not going to stop either," I whispered.A smile stretched over his face and lit up his eyes. I leaned closer and sealed my vow with my lips. The rush of heat I always felt when we kissed tingled my toes and they curled into the blankets. I opened my mouth so his tongue could venture inside, and I sighed, so wanting to feel him. But the moment was cut short. The door opened and a man with graying hair, a white coat, and a file in his hand stepped in. "Mr. Anderson," he said, looking straight at Romeo. It was like he didn't even notice the intimate bubble Romeo and I occupied. "I have your X-ray results."The bubble burst abruptly and reality rushed back in. Romeo's dad came in the room, his face concerned as Valerie hovered just outside the doorway staring into the room like it was some forbidden fruit.I scrambled up to sit on the mattress, ignoring the protests of my sore body. Romeo did the same, moving a little more gingerly. In the space between us on the mattress, our fingers intertwined. "How bad is it?" Romeo asked. For once I heard fear in his tone.I glanced at him.He glanced at me.Our moment was over. The fight started now. Copyright owned Cambria Hebert

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. #PLAYER is #PERFECT!!! By The Rock Chick Fairy I have been a big fan of this series from the start. There's just something about it that calls out to me. I can definitely say that the author saved the best for last!I shall try to break it down without giving out big spoilers. . .The characters are more mature now.Rimmel had gone from being a nerd who hides efficiently behind her clothes and big glasses to being a proud girlfriend who tells everyone how awesome her guy is.*imaginary* Rimmel would like to borrow a line from Taylor Swift's song and turn it into Rim's song for Romeo--> 'cause you know I love this PLAYER... and he LOVES the GAME!!!Seriously, she's so supportive! The number one cheerleader! I also love it that in this book, our Rimmel didn't back down. She has a good, sturdy backbone now. It also helps that Romeo is always there for her. He's the reassuring soul all the way for Rim.Romeo on the other hand is everything you'll ever hope for a guy his age and then some more. He's something, I tell you that. When this series started, I thought he was just a jock. Oh man, if you can just see his transition from that jock to a guy who puts everything about him second to everything about Rim? You'd love him to pieces! I am so, so sure that you will love him here.I think I've already said this about their relationship, but I'd like to reiterate it... THIS IS A STRONG PAIR. Nothing, and I mean nothing can separate them. The best thing about them is that they kept being together no matter what happened and mind you.. there are so many things that could have ruined them! But no kiddos, this pair can stand the tests! They are adamant not to let other things spoil what they made for themselves. Especially Romeo. That guy. MYGAWD, he's always there to save the day, always there to make things better, always there to have an easy or not so easy way out. It's just plain perfect. I can't say anything bad. I just love it!If you ask me about the secondary characters... I would definitely describe them as... EFFECTIVE. I really got angry with Rim's dad, then I also go angry with that psycho Zach. On the other hand, I love, love, love Braeden. I can't wait for him to have his own book! If I already love him now and it's still not his book..... what more when I'm already holding his story in my hands? GOSH! I also love the other two girls because they're awesome girlfriends. Needless to say, I really want everyone to have their own books! *BATS EYELASHES TO THE AUTHOR* ^_______^O-kay. So that's about it. I love it. I love it. I love it.READ THE ENTIRE SERIES! YOU'LL FEEL GOOD. YOU'LL FEEL GREAT. YOU'LL FEEL AWESOME!

"I'll quit as soon as I get to a good stopping place By Danita, The Book Nuts ********** Spoilers Ahead if You Haven't Read #Hater **********Have you ever started a book and as you were reading thought "I'll quit as soon as I get to a good stopping place?" That was me with this book, and my stopping place was "The End" at 3:00 in the morning. Because #Player picks up right where #Hater left off, you are completely drawn in from the very first sentence.Romeo and Rimmel are in the ER after the attack by Zach, and are waiting to hear how bad Romeo's arm is broken, and if his football career is over. Unfortunately for these two, the fate of Romeo's football career could be the least of their worries. They still have so much to face: the case against Zach, Rimmel's academic status, and the possibility that her father had her mother killed. What I LOVED was that they stayed true to each other, and faced everything together, making their relationship stronger in the process. I completely adore them both.Romeo is just as swoon-worthy in this book as he was in the previous two. He is Rimmel's rock, and is there to support her through everything that they're facing. He loves her completely, and makes sure that she always knows this. And even with everything going on, he still finds ways to make Rimmel laugh, and to see that everything will be okay.Rimmel wants to be strong for Romeo, and be there for him to lean on, even when she is about to break herself. She tries to hide how badly everything has effected her from Romeo, but she forgets that he knows her better than she knows herself. She realizes that she needs to be strong and face everything head-on, and she knows that everything will work out with Romeo by her side. And Braden..............he's just as amazing as Romeo. I absolutely love him, and can't wait for his book. We know from reading #Nerd and #Hater that he cares a lot about Romeo and Rimmel, and we get to see just how much in this book. He is by far one of my favorite characters from this series.I wish I could go into more detail about everything that I loved about this book, but there's really no way to do that without giving anything away, so I'll just say this: #Player is an absolute must-read. I honestly cannot recommend it highly enough.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Perfect conclusion to an epic love story By Lisa S, The Reading Room #Player picks up right where #Hater left over, with Rimmel and Romeo recovering from Zach's violent attack and waiting to find out the impact on Romeo's football future. Its hard to say much more without giving away any spoilers but I will say that author Cambria Hebert Kicks things off with a ton of emotion and the story rockets to a stellar resolution. What I Loved: Once I jumped into #Player I could not stop reading until I reached the very last page. Then I found myself reading the story again the next day and again the day after that. Author Cambria Hebert has created something special with the Hashtag Series and her conclusion to Romeo and Rimmel's love story knocks it out of the park. There's drama, action, angst, humor, heat, and the promise of a brilliant future for her leads. Romeo and Rimmel have grown so much over three books, the conclusion was everything I could hope for them. What I Didn't Love: #Player is a five star read for me so there really isn't anything that I didn't love. The only thing that would have added to the story for me is a little more insight into the resolution of Rimmel's academic woes. But that's a small reader want, not a real storyline need.Favorite Quotes:"Don't forget this moment. Don't forget the absolute truth in the way you feel right now. I love you and I'm not going to stop.""I was her soft place to fall. I was her strength in that moment. I was her comfort.""His mouth was like a giant eraser to my chalkboard. Everything inside me was wiped blank, and all that remained was his mouth.""I don't think we'll ever be normal. But I guarantee we're going to be happy.""I don't know how I got so lucky, I don't know how I found a love so pure. But I was going to spend the rest of my life thanking God every day."The Hashtag Series has been such a joy for me as a reader and a blogger. I've consumed Romeo and Rimmel's story again and again and every time I jump back in I'm just as captivated and excited to read it as I was the very first read. #Player is a wonderful finale and I highly recommend it. #Player should not be read as a standalone and if you haven't already jumped into the Hashtag Series you will need to read #Nerd and #Hater first.Though Romeo and Rimmel's love story has been wrapped up in a neat little bow I'm happy to report #Player won't be the last time we see the pair. Both will be making an appearance in #Selfie, which will focus on Braeden, Romeo's best friend and Rimmel's self-appointed Big Brother for Life. I for one can't wait.Happy reading.

When Nel Stewart returns home due to the sudden death of her mother, she realizes her beloved father, Jakob, is struggling with dementia. With the reappearance of a high-school sweetheart, deliveries from Ukraine addressed to her, and the discovery of a mysterious, vintage aquamarine gemstone, Nel senses God is pulling her into the past to restore their faith and their futures. Told partially through Jakob's flashbacks of fleeing genocide-ridden eastern Europe at the turn of the twentieth century, the novel combines elements of mystery, history, faith and romance to reveal how God redeems the broken years ... and our future.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Well written, but sad By Amazon Customer The main feeling I get when thinking about Then Sings My Soul: A Novel is sadness. Sad for Jakob's family that was in the genocide in Eastern Europe in the early 1900s. Sad for the heroine that can't have children. Sad that she didn't visit her mother sooner; sad for the decline of her father. Sad for the high school friend that made a mess of his life. Sad for the other people in the nursing home. It's a lot of sadness. There are glimpses of hope and redemption, but for me they were overwhelmed by sadness. Even when things turned out better I felt regret for what could have been. That part of it was very true to life; during that time in history there was much sadness. It is interesting to read about Jews that became Christians as Jakob's family did. They definitely had a strong faith since they risked so much to believe. However, the majority of the faith that is talked about is from memories of family members that have already died. It is good that they were strong witnesses that were well remembered. It was also interesting to read about the jewel cutting and jewelry business. I enjoyed that it was woven in throughout the story in different times and different eras. The book does alternate between the early 1900s and the late 1900s; as well as between the father's view point and the heroine's. It was not confusing and I was able to follow along easily and know who was talking.I do not have things in common with the heroine so it was hard for me to relate to her. I think the main hero in this book is her father. He is the only one in the current time and the flashbacks. The heroine's high school sweetheart is a good supporting character as is the kind neighbor lady. You can read more of my reviews at http://jendisjournal.com

I absolutely love historical fiction and stories of faith By PSS I absolutely love historical fiction and stories of faith, restoration, and redemption, and this book contained all of these elements so beautifully (and so much more). Amy K. Sorrells has such a special gift with words, and even though I learned extremely difficult things about Jewish persecution in Ukraine in the early 20th century, it was shared in such a touching and unique way. If you enjoyed the book Sarah's Key, you will love this one, too, because of the flashback style of writing mixed with mystery. My simple words just cannot fully express the depth of how much this story affected me. Thank you, Amy K. Sorrells, for another wonderful, inspiring novel!

Couldn't Put It Down By Kariss Lynch Amy Sorrells writes a gripping novel where past and present collide in a beautiful tapestry of emotion and relatable characters. I read an early copy and couldn't put it down! I teared up, I laughed, and I highly recommend. This book will make you treasure memories, history, and the bond of family.
