The snarks and sarcasms are the key factors that make the story so entertaining. No dull moments with the Grimlocks. On the other hand, the cliffhanger has left me in awe and with a question of why. Darn! I will definitely have a book hangover after this.Here is an excerpt of Angelina's and Aisling's conversation that has made me laughed out loud while reading at work:Angelina: "I'm going to kill you." Angelina seethed, rubbing her cheek. "I'm going to have a bruise tomorrow. How am I going to explain that?"Aisling: "Tell people you read Fifty Shades of Grey and wanted to explore your inner whore." Aisling suggested, "Trust me, they'll believe you."
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very well done as a book and as part of a series By Bibliophile Good sequel with continuing character development from the first book, Grim Tidings. The hilariously dysfunctional Grimlock family is again joined by Aisling's best friend Jerry, her new boyfriend Griffin, and introducing a Griffin's sister Maya, as they once again face a set of unusual circumstances for grim reapers. The plot and characters build on information from the last book to create not only a good story but also a good series. I'm looking forward to the next installment!

My Only Reaper Series I Read By Lovemuffins Such a great follow-up to the first book!I'm a big fan of Amanda Lee's Witches and Avery Shaw series (although, admittedly, I could NOT get into her young adult series... hated the main character in that) and it looks like she's got me hooked on a new one now.Definitely read the first book before trying this one, because there's a lot of background about reapers that you need to know, as well as about Aisling's rather unique family. If you like snarky dialogue, nosy brothers, alpha male overload, and a seriously sassy heroine, then you need to check this series out. I've tried other reaper series and been turned off by the magic or the exposition, but Ms. Lee weaves the mythology and facts that you need in order to swallow your suspension of disbelief through snappy quips and lots of action to keep the reader interested.As a follow-up book, we get to go deeper into Aisling's family situation, AND we get to learn a lot more about Det. Griffin - even meeting a family member! Can I just say, I freaking love Griffin???? He's got a ton of patience, and at the same time manages to hold his own with Aisling's family, occasionally giving out the affectionate verbal abuse as fast as he gets pummeled with it. I really love that this book shows a lot of Aisling just trying to do the mundane business of her job, while being sidetracked by more wraiths, more little mysteries and more murders.I also really appreciate that a new character brings in some great insight into Aisling and the way her family works. It's easy, at times, to dismiss Aisling's behavior as childish, and there was one point when I was shaking my head and thinking WHY IS SHE SO STUPID?! I was almost disappointed at Ms. Lee, because it seemed like she was being stupid for the sake of being stupid, but then the side character brought up some really good points as she was basically psychoanalyzing Aisling and her family, and I immediately was like "Oh... okay, good points." I'm totally okay with behavior that verges on idiocy as long as there's a reasonable explanation behind it that makes the character's motivations plausible and not just a convenient plot point. Ms. Lee is RIGHT on top of it with providing that explanation.More girl fights with Angelina, more delightful nights with Jerry, more family confrontations, and a rousing game of Shark Attack (which... I am dying to get my friends drunk enough to convince them to play it with me...) and there's plenty to laugh about through the book as you wait for the mystery to be solved.The best part? No cliffhanger ending. There IS some information that comes up at the end which is like OMG and of course I can't wait to see where that information is going to lead in the next book, but it's not a frustrating / things are unexplained kind of cliff hanger ending. Which is one of the nice things about reading this series - I'm not MAD at the end of the book. I'm satisfied with the way things wrapped up but looking forward to the next book (a lot). It's the best way to feel at the end of a book - and highly unusual for a serial.
