Adams ~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~This is Maddox and Hawke’s story, we met them briefly in the first book and I fell for Hawke and couldn’t wait to get the scoop on him! Maddox has been playing games with Hawke and he knew that eventually Hawke would get tired of it. Little did Maddox know that when Hawke got tired he went all out to prove that he was fed up and done with the games. I loved this book and I liked how it was longer than the first book. We learn what Maddox has been through, we meet up with the twins again and learn more about them and we of course get to see the story of Maddox and Hawke. This is by far my favorite in the series so far, can’t wait to see who is up next!Characters: The characters were well written and believable.Sex: yesReligious: noWould I recommend to others: yesMore than one book in the series: yesGenre: M/M/RomanceWould I read more by this author: yes~Wicked Reads Review Team~

Hawke and Maddox By Booklover Mary received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.When Maddox realizes that Hawke meant what he said, that he was done, it hit him like a ton of bricks. It didn't matter that Maddox had been pushing him away for the better part of six months, it still came as a surprise that the one person that he had unwittingly came to count on, walked away.Hawke had to leave. Tired of not being not only good enough, but anything to Maddox, Hawke decides to move on and cut all strings to the man who holds his heart. He moves, changes his number and quits hanging out at his old haunts. He's determined to find someone who will treat him as though he is enough.Take a chance, open the book and see what secrets both Maddox and Hawke are hiding beneath their stony facades. My only gripe... not long enough and book 3 isn't already on the shelf.

By Amanda Dalton *Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock*5 glorious fangs..I've come way out of my 'norm' reading and it's nothing for me to pickup a M/M or F/F based book these days. If you think that you can't have anything in common with a gay couple, you are so wrong. Their struggles and achievements are the same as anyone else's. Maddox and Hawke's struggles are something that I think we all can relate to. Hawke is fed up with the way that Maddox is treating him. It's not that he's ashamed of being gay, it's more of he feels like Maddox is using him. Hawke feels that Maddox is stringing him along and only shows him affection when he wants it and pushing him aside when he doesn't. If Hawke was just out playing the field it would be different, but Hawke has found that he loves Maddox. He's tired and decides that only way to quit Maddox is to leave him completely alone. He changes his number, packs up and moves away from Maddox. It's not until then that Maddox realizes that he loves Hawke, but he wasn't sure if he could trust him completely and now he thinks he's shot his one chance at true happiness. Can he fix this with the help of his band-members or will it make things even worse?

By The Average Bear If you are a fan of The Rising, you might enjoy reading this short story. Deliverance is a prequel starring Pastor Martin, who isn't necessarily the most beloved of characters from The Rising crew, and two other characters, John and Rebecca. All three are barricaded inside a church while Ob and his minions rampage across the world possessing humans and animals alike creating "smart" zombies which can use their hosts brains like a book of information to utilize tools, weapons, and memories to defile and destroy humanity.Unfortunately, this is all touched upon a little and left in the background, which I feel is the bread and butter of The Rising series. However, this story isn't supposed to be about combating the undead.Without going too much into the plot, Deliverance focuses on Martin's thoughts, background, and the struggle with keeping his faith in God while facing the overwhelming adversity. Further complicating the situation are his fellow survivors who pull Martin in different directions testing his ability to remain faithful to who he is and his belief in God having a purpose for him.I don't think Deliverance should have been made into a separate novella. It should have been included in "The Rising: Selected Scenes from the End of the World". It would have served as a wonderful conclusion to the collection of short stories revolving around The Rising and it would have served as an excellent callback to the novels. Unfortunately, as a stand alone this book suffers without the support the rest of The Rising's canon.Along with Deliverance, there are two short stories at the end of the novella. "The Resurrection and The Life" which follows Jesus confronting Ob who comes back from the dead as Lazarus. This was the most enjoyable story of the three.There was also "The Siqquism Who Stole Christmas" which felt more like a tease than an actual story. A few more pages and an actual conclusion would have gone a long way.Overall, unless you are a completionist, sadly, I don't recommend this book. Keene has much stronger material in his novels and other short story collections so unless you really really want more from the world of "The Rising", your time would be better spent reading "Earthworm Gods", "Urban Gothic", or "Dark Hallow".

From "The Horror Fiction Review" By Christine Love this series, love this author, love this publisher … but just one thing … whoever had proofreading detail might’ve maybe dropped the ball a few too many times. I kept getting jarred out of the story, which is really too bad because it’s otherwise great.The Rising: Deliverance takes us back in time to the very first days of the Rising itself, this time filling us in on how Reverend Martin ended up hiding out in his church before meeting Jim. We get to see more of the events from his perspective, which is able to look at things less as a personal crisis and more as a philosophical problem.Here’s a good man, a man of faith, a man who’s served God for decades, who’s believed. Now this, and this is not much like what he’s been led to expect of the end times. It throws a lot of questions at him, and not a lot of comfort. It also shows his own struggles with despair, loyalty, courage and temptation.As a bonus, this reissue of the 2010 edition includes two short stories. As a bonus, I say (and the author’s note says), but they’re far more than a bonus. They’re two VERY different takes on that bad ol’ Siqquism and everybody’s favorite legions-of-the-undead mastermind, Ob.The first is “The Resurrection and the Life,” a historical piece going back to the first Rising … the one-man show involving Lazarus. Only, as a rather troubled Jesus soon realizes, his good friend Lazarus isn’t quite the same. It’s almost as if someone else, some other spirit, occupies his corpse …The second brings us a fun bit of silliness holiday special in “The Siqquism Who Stole Christmas.” Sorry to say, this was where my inner proofreader had the most fits over the wrong homonym (but at least it was consistent, there’s that). Ob finds himself in another newly-deceased host, several miles up in a sleigh on a crisp winter night. From there, well, from there it just keeps on getting wackier.Keene doesn’t want to be known as The Zombie Guy. That’s fair enough, and he’s woven satyrs, Lovecraftian nightmares, urban horrors and hauntings, primitive island savages, and more into the elaborate and expanding tapestry of his literary mythos. He’s certainly not JUST a zombie guy. But there’s something familiar and comforting about a revisit every now and then, and I was glad to see this one happen.

Enjoyed the back story of some more of the characters from the Rising universe. Being a native West Virginian, I also enjoyed the geographical aspect of the book, as the small towns and areas described were easily visualized in my head because I'd been to them all.

This title brings an amusing and amazing collection of stories By Luna This title brings an amusing and amazing collection of stories, a mix of laughter, fun and a bit of sadness in erratic lives of their characters. Combined with authors creative imagination, isn't that what everybody wants to find in a book? You should definitely read this book to have a good laugh, refresh your vocabulary, disconnect from known reality and wander away to the areas so well presented where these lunatics have a desperate shot at their attempt to have a life.I loved Reflection of Me in particular, a story that tells us about depravity of once well bred family after moving into the city The parallel drawn using the image of King Harold of the Lithasian peoples reflects an unfathomable depth of thought and feeling that author is gifted with..Conflict with teddy bear in Share the Load made me laugh till my muscles hurt.These lunatics are mad in a charming manner that won't let you put the book down till the end.

So knowing the themes of his other stories I was ready for anything! If you're looking for a lighthearted, everything ends happily ever after then don't, I repeat don't get this book. Now if you like darkness with twists then this is a must read. As I read I couldn't help but think of Edgar Allen Poe in the Twilight Zone. An inheritance, a family man, a bar, a social get together, a man and his beloved pet - if you think that sounds rather "Pollyanna", then you'd be dead wrong.......

The story was unpredictable and fun. Susan Page Davis has done it again. She has written another book that will hold a permanent place on my bookshelf.

She has been living with a preacher and his wife after the untimely death of her abusive husband. She was unable to make ends meet on her own and was forced to accept the charity of the preacher. However, she didn’t bargain on becoming a veritable slave, doing all the housework, mending and such for no pay and constantly criticized by the preacher’s lazy wife. In her desperation, she answers an ad for a mail-order bride. She has been corresponding with Mark Paynter for several months and he has finally asked her to marry him. She is so relieved that she sets out right away for Texas. When she arrives, she finds Mark less enthusiastic than his letters and wonders if their marriage will survive.Johnny Paynter has been working on a ranch when he is suddenly accused of killing the ranch foreman. One of the other cowpokes rushes to Johnny to give him the news and offers to ride out with him for company. The two head to Johnny’s brother’s place in Texas to lie low for a while. Johnny had wanted to immediately go to the sheriff to tell him that Johnny wasn’t guilty and had done nothing wrong, but Johnny’s friend convinced him the other ranch hands were in a lynching mood and Johnny’s chances of surviving for a trial weren’t good. Once they arrive in Texas, they find themselves in another mess. Johnny wants to go to the sheriff, but again his friend convinces him how much trouble he would be in if he did that. Johnny lies once again and is miserable doing so, but can see no way out. Then, Sally arrives and the lies continue to build.This is a story set in the 1880s in Texas. The story moves along with the constant threat of a return of the gang who has looted some nearby ranches and even killed some men, but the drama for me was reading about how the lies impact day-to-day living and relationships. The plot was a bit slow in some spots the ending was predictable, but I still enjoyed reading this historical Western romance.

The Outlaw Takes a Bride takes you on an adventure back in time. Sally hasn’t had an easy life ever since moving away from her parents. She finds herself stuck in a place where she isn’t treated right, but can’t make enough money to get away. Answering a mail-order bride ad seems like the perfect idea. After getting to know Mark, she knows he is the one for her. Finally the day comes for her to leave for Texas and start a new life.Johnny has always been an honest guy, and would never do anything to hurt anyone. When he is accused of murder he has no choice but to flee when his friend Cam tells him the boys are thinking about hanging him with out knowing the truth. Johnny decides that visiting his brother Mark for a while is a good idea, and hopes that while he is gone the sheriff will find out who was the real killer. When they finally arrive at Marks ranch something isn’t right. When Johnny thinks things can’t get any worse he finds out his brother is dead. Cam puts ideas in Johnny’s head and before long everyone thinks Johnny is Mark. When they find out a mail-order bride is on the way the adventure really begins.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Romance with a little suspense thrown in. Page Davis did an awesome job at keeping me entertained, and made it hard for me to put the book down. You will enjoy getting to know Johnny and Sally and rooting for them to fall in love. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Shiloh Run Press in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Wonderful book from the Reiki teacher's teacher By Deborah Flanagan The Inner Heart of Reiki is a wonderful companion for the advanced Reiki student and/or teacher who wants to dive deeper into their daily practice and expand their energetic understanding of Reiki. This book is a clear and concise guide to help you integrate the various components of the system of Reiki--the precepts, meditations, symbols/mantras, and hands-on-healing--into your sessions, classes, and most importantly, your life.Frans Stiene, often referred to as "the Reiki Teacher's Teacher," takes his extensive research and grounded personal understanding and practice, and outlines a path of practice you can follow in his gentle, compassionate, and often humorous way.As a Reiki teacher and practitioner, I found this book quite breathtaking. The teachings are not watered down and are profoundFor the first time I found a teacher and a teaching philosophy with so much credibility and the first time any Reiki teacher has ever explored and integrated esoteric japanese aspects of teaching so well that I had the confidence to trust in the more esoteric aspects of a that weren't initially obvious to me.Frans Stiene has the wisdom and courage to acknowedge inner/deeper aspects of our inner most mind.You can start to get the idea in the beginning of the book , with a poem written by Frans-Digging for the truth- A glimmer of the hope.It talks and explain in simple, organized way about all the hidden and inner teachings of elements of system of Reiki . Sacred text-- communing with Reiki By MHM Today is a good day to re-read some chapters of Frans Stiene's The Inner Heart of Reiki: Rediscovering Your True Self. Today is also the perfect day to practice one of the meditations I have learned from Frans, called Joshin Kokyu Ho. Today is a good day to strengthen my center, to nourish the hara, with a breathing meditation that revitalizes in a natural, easy way. As Frans teaches it, this meditation is one of the foundational practices of the system of Reiki upon which we harmonize our Mind, Body and Energy. Frans lives this Reiki practice as only a true master can; and is sharing from his own direct experience the mysteries of Mikao Usui's teachings, walking an esoteric Japanese path that Usui walked, as it were. And-- he is taking us along with him with practices that have become accessible to us on account of this dedication. Frans invites us to practice this system so that we will have our own fluid and organic connection to Reiki, to our True Self. What is uncanny and fascinating about this book is that it really reads as a living, sacred text. Frans shows the interrelatedness of the five elements of the system of Reiki-- Mantras/Symbols, Reiki Precepts, Meditations, hands-on healing, and Reijus-- to one-another –and, as he writes about it- to the three mysteries of Mind, Body and Energy. His own practice has unlocked these ways to show how they contain one another; each of the five elements builds life-long preparation to re-discover and commune as non-dual True Self. Each short chapter contains a mountain of wisdom, and makes it possible to read one chapter at a time, and then resume a Reiki Meditation, if one likes. This is how I read the book-- as part of practice. To re-discover the Great Bright Light that we already are, might look like practicing Reiki meditation every day. And to strengthen the body and mind to face our day…. that may look like contemplating the precepts. All of these practices bring us to natural integration, in communion with Reiki, True Self. Reiki practice as taught here, brings stamina and harmony for our tasks at hand, for our day; brings us into harmony; brings happiness. New perhaps to those not familiar with a non-dual approach, is the lack of judgment- making, the lack of distinctions of labeling, the absence of express diagnosing and treatment, that may be standard in many healing methods. The healing is far reaching and deep because of its source and nature as compassion. Another essential characteristic is that the Reiki practices are meditations and a spiritual practice that one must cultivate in oneself. Because Frans is steeped in this practice so very deeply, we can partake of his example, and his tremendous inspiration and follow by developing our own practice. This is a book to keep close by as a companion to one's daily Reiki practice. Thanks Frans!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Read By LaGyrl7 Okay, so let me just start out by saying that this was my first read by this author and I did enjoy the book. However, there were some key things to me that made my reading experience a ‘not so great one’ and the following is my opinion of the book.For starters, some of the content just wasn’t realistic. And before I get slack from saying that, I KNOW that it’s fiction, but I feel like it’s good to have a certain believability factor when I’m reading books and this one just didn’t have it for me. Both of the main characters just seemed too young to be where they were in their careers (a 26yo attorney that has NEVER lost a case and the redundancy of her always finding loopholes in her cases) and a 29yo world renowned brain surgeon. I also feel in my opinion of the redundancy of the label name dropping and expensive cars (in relationship to their ages, careers, etc) didn’t seem believable either.Besides this, I think that the storyline was a good one. I loved the addition of Monique’s sister and I loved her relationship with Chris. Overall I liked the book, but the believability factor and the lack of good editing (if there even was an editor) just made this a not so pleasant read for me. I will probably get the next part because I want to see how it all plays out, but I hope that the editing is better and the believability is better.

Thank you Shantay for working hard to provide a great hardcore but romantic story. This book has everything to keep the reader entertained. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.Now I did love Chris and Monique. At first their relationship seemed kind of rushed. Monique could definitely hold her own. However, Chris was that street thug mixed with the sexiness of knowing how to treat a women and appreciate them. Oh my goodness Monique sister Kendra was off the chain and ready for whatever. There were great parts to this book that had me holding my side laughing. Add a mixture of elegance mixed with thug and it was a great book. I loved the fact that she was a lawyer and he was a street guy. Gave a different element to urban book. There was drama and mystery from trying to find out who's the bad guy. Chris is definitely going to be out for blood. Tyshon oh how many men think the grass is greener on the other side until you lose the best thing you ever had. I would possibly read book 2 once I've read book 1 over for better clarity. The book length was great. It was nice to read an urban book with good length. However, sometimes I can skip the cliffhangers!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. she did it again By Amazon Customer Shantay never cease to amaze me everything she writes is fyiah I love the storyline I'm glad that Monique met Chris everything about them was love but her ex tyshon was jerk wifed up his side piece which was also his baby mama now after all he did to mo she has moved on with Chris now tyshon is missing her Kendra and rashad make a good couple I just hope his bitter ex Keisha don't start no more drama Kendra needs to have that baby far as Tiffany she was stupid trying to pin a baby on Chris just so the baby real father can claim the throne which Chris not gone let him take he worked to hard for it but this ending made me feel some type of way I just hope part 2 Monique is back with her man come on shantay we want a happy ending some babies and weddings it was also good to see Jared and Jasmine in this book if you have not read this book I suggest you do you will not be disappointed
